Car coolant question!

My car is signalling that my coolant is low. Is it ok to just buy some coolant and top up myself and if so which one? Do different cars need different coolants? My manual doesn’t state a particular type. Thanks.

You will need to use the correct type of coolant for your car. More concerning is that it’s asking for coolant which suggests it’s going somewhere…

Not necessarily. I had BMWs from new that regularly asked for more oil - it never worrried me. But obviously always use the right type, OP. If you go to a filling station and look at the oils it will say on them what they’re suitable for.

Coolant is not oil. It’s completely acceptable for engines to use a bit of oil.
