Best English Breakfast Tea

Very boring question I know! We have used Twinings for years but I am on mat leave and drinking lots of tea and want to treat myself to something fancy! Should I try fortnum and mason? Or any other brand?

We like Tregothnan's.

Loose leaf Assam, try the Sainsbury one first.

Making a pot of tea is a treat. Sticking a teabag in a cup is just functional.

I buy clipper, which are organic / unbleached tea bags. I only drink tea, no coffee, so prefer what I see as a better quality one!

The one from buywholefoodsonline is really good for a standard, loose-leaf cuppa. It's organic, too, if you're into that.

I only buy Marks and Spencer Extra Strong teabags. They're a great pick-me-up in the early morning and good for later in the day. I also used to buy Waitrose Gold Extra Strong teabags for my old workplace; they were better suited to the water there.

I’ve never tried Assam! I am excited.

I like clipper - both breakfast and earl grey and anyone visiting always asks me what tea we use

bratsummer · 16/01/2025 20:07

I haven’t tried the English Breakfast but other Fortnum’s tea is excellent so it’s probably worth a try.

Taylors.

We mix equal parts English Breakfast and Assam loose leaf with half a packet of Earl Grey. Makes a lovely refreshing tea. All Waitrose own.

Tea pigs or loose leaf M&S extra gold…

milski · 16/01/2025 20:53

Don't think it is an English Breakfast tea but Barry's Tea is the absolute best cuppa!

TheseCalmSeas · 16/01/2025 20:54

Yorkshire Gold and if I can’t get that the M&S dupe is great too

toastofthetown · 16/01/2025 20:56

The Rare Tea Company's Malawi breakfast tea is delightful. It's head and shoulders above every other breakfast tea I've have - the flavour is so rich and deep and complex.

Mareleine · 16/01/2025 20:58

Do you like strong or weak tea OP? I'd branch out into Twining's Darjeeling (very mild but deliciously layered flavour) or Irish Breakfast (stronger than English Breakfast); you can buy nice tins of both on their website.
Having said that, I do want to try Harrods' Georgian Blend and Fortnum and Mason Explorer blend teas too. 😍
