If you have the chance to go on a month long holiday, in the summer holidays, where would you go ?

Was thinking maybe Cornwall or Spain/greece
also thought of Cyprus but perhaps that’s a bit too hot July/aug

Norfolk

scratchyfannyofcocklane · 16/01/2025 14:10

Depends on whether or not you'd enjoy a holiday where it could possibly rain near enough every day? We did a month in lanzorte once when I was on mat leave and had a brilliant time but I do enjoy near enough guaranteed sunshine and lounging by the pool

Idontjetwashthefucker · 16/01/2025 14:11

Queensland, lovely temps at that time of year

stanleypops66 · 16/01/2025 14:20

Canada! It's on my bucket list. Waiting until dc is a bit older.

Rocknrollstar · 16/01/2025 14:21

Probably all inclusive Gran Canaria. Actually, anywhere!

BelievingIsSeeing · 16/01/2025 14:22

We did this for a few years when DH started teaching. We did:
Scotland - lovely holiday but the midges 🤢
Croatia/Bosnia /Montenegro and Serbian roadtrip - hot hot hot
Prague, Munich, Vienna & Krakow - loved this trip.
USA & Canada - specifically Alaska and Dawson. Amazing, would 100% do this one again.

Mirrorxxx · 16/01/2025 14:22

In uk summer? Ile de re

Namerchangee · 16/01/2025 14:22

Italy. It would be an absolute dream to spend 4 weeks there. Probably somewhere in Tuscany with a pool. Heaven.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/01/2025 14:22

I'd go to Hawaii and island hop.
Closer to home, probably Greece, maybe pick 2 islands and do 2 weeks on each

StormingNorman · 16/01/2025 14:25

Based on the coast around Athens with some island hopping around the Cyclades.

coxesorangepippin · 16/01/2025 14:27

Budget depending, either Scandinavia or (cheaper) Northern France

user2848502016 · 16/01/2025 14:36

Canada or Australia

Abracadabra12345 · 16/01/2025 14:54

Depends how hot you like it. I wouldn't want to go to Greece or Italy in July or August 🥵

MightyGoldBear · 16/01/2025 15:40

Greece in August would be my last holiday! I'd melt.

If the UK Cornwall or Norfolk are lovely. If anywhere then Italy France Germany there is so many lovely places. My ideal would be sunny but not melting hot weather.
Going for a month would be wonderful you could experience so much and slowly travel around wherever. I'm very jealous if this is you're reality op.

I find the 6 weeks very hard going I'd be happy to stay anywhere that had more facilities for the kids.

Titsywoo · 16/01/2025 15:42

I'd go interrailing around Europe

PlopSofa · 16/01/2025 15:44

I'd go interrailing around Europe

But where would you stay? Lonely Planet used to list budget places but do they even exist now?

And could I hack them, now I’m 50? I’m not sure about no pool etc 😆

hairyunicorn · 16/01/2025 15:45

Thailand, specifically northern Thailand
Amazing weather, people and food.

PlopSofa · 16/01/2025 15:48

Last summer in Marbella was terrific. 30 to 32 every day.

The year before it was 38 and 40… and very hot winds at night.

You don’t know really until July/August arrives… hard to predict.

Thailand is a good call but it’s been in a perpetual heatwave for over a year now…

It might have cooled down now, I haven’t checked but last year every month was record breaking.

Delatron · 16/01/2025 15:50

I think anywhere in southern Europe would be too hot (and I like the heat!).

Canada sounds like a good shout. So much to do and see. I’d definitely get bored on a beach holiday so would need to travel around.

I think in the UK the weather would be so disappointing I’d think id may as well be at home!

Somewhere in Scandinavia could be fun but expensive.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/01/2025 15:55

Definitely not the UK. PP who said I'l de Re, I'd look at around I'l D'oleron, not so overpriced and a bit calmer. Getting on and off in traffic is a PITA in summer though and I think a month would be too much. Could combine with La Rochelle, Bordeaux and everywhere in between. It can be roastingly hot though.

JennyTals · 16/01/2025 16:00

Yeah I think if I was in the uk and it rained everyday I’d be a bit annoyed, eve if it was just a bit meh you know grey and 18c …

maybe I need to cast my net wider

If you really want Europe then the S.West of France - Biarritz and then over to Northern Spain could potentially not be as searing hot as the more southern countries. So San Sebastián and all around there. Could do a week travelling down through France stopping off at interesting towns. A week on the coast then 2 weeks in Northern Spain.

AtticusCatticus · 16/01/2025 17:03

Interrailing.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 16/01/2025 17:07

Do you want to stay in one place or move locations?

Do you have activities you like to do? Or looking to flip by a pool?

I’d do a few countries in central and Eastern Europe. A week city-based, couple of weeks hiking, a week relaxing in countryside or by water with books. Dreamy.

JennyTals · 16/01/2025 17:33

Yeah I don’t mind changing locations or even splitting it and having a fortnight then back home then another fornight
if that’s better

like doing activities but also like beach time too
