Cellular Blankets - confused

Baby due in March. We have gone for a moses basket for the first 6 months and got some cellular blankets and sleeping bags for when baby is a bit bigger. Practised today tucking the blankets in under the mattress in the moses basket to make it a tight and safe sleeping space but the blankets are so big that to have them in one layer means tucking absolutely loads of the blanket under the mattress. This has meant that the mattress no longer looks flat at that end as there's so much blanket under the mattress. I know the mattress should be flat. The blankets are standard Mothercare cellular blankets so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone advise?

Are they for a Moses basket? Can you try folding them in half and using that way? You are quite likely to want two layers of blanket anyway.

Presumably it's a cot sized blanket rather than a moses / bassinet/ pram sized one, just look for a smaller one.

You just need to make sure it's tucked under their arms and not too high up. Doesn't need to go under the mattress.

Why don’t you try a swaddle

They were marketed for moses baskets which is why I was confused at the size!

Thanks, then what do we do with the rest of the blanket as there is quite a lot left? Just leave it at the bottom?

I've just tried that and it looks much better, I didn't know if 2 layers would be too much in March
