I am looking for inspiration as my ds has very different interests to me and dh. We are both engineers and not really sure what other career paths there are. Degrees such as marketing or politics and economics for instance. What career paths do they lead to.

I did a joint law & history degree then did LPC to become a solicitor. Ended up working as a civil servant for a few years, as a insolvency investigator, before moving into the banking sector where I've worked in Commercial Banking, Legal Risk and Compliance. I've been working in HR investigations for the last 18 months.

Biology degree. I’m an accountant. You don’t need a degree to train as an accountant.

macshoto · 12/01/2025 17:43

Maths. Turned down a Civil Service job in Operations Research and became a Chartered Accountant.

Intended to stay for only 3 years. However, having worked overseas and become a partner, I stayed for 30+ years.

Lecturer, teaching on a Fashion course

Crinkle77 · 12/01/2025 18:03

Social Sciences undergraduate and MA in similar field. Worked in a university library for last 20 years. Started off shelving books, moved on to helpdesk, comms and now in academic skills. Don't think my degree subject itself helped me get a job but definitely the skills learnt doing a degree have helped. Specifically academic writing/research skills help in my current role.

BA in english literature followed by BSc in Building Engineering and Management and MSc in Building Surveying. (Basically, when I was 18, I did a degree in my best subject at school and because I liked reading but had no idea of what I wanted to do other than I definitely didn’t want to teach.)

Husband - BEng in something to do with electronics, MSc in Project Management.
