Looking some advice myself husband and two kids are finally applying for our passport via online. My partner just needs his mums passport number and his birth certificate but myself and two kids will need my mother's birth certificate will I need to send 3 or will the one cover us all?

Have you and your dh never had a passport of any kind before?

For ease I'd maybe do yours and his passports first and then sort out the kids ones as then you can just use your passport numbers on their applications

I can't tell you about first time applications online, but we did renew ours and our teens early last year and there were a couple of outstandings, we had to take the youngsters photo x3 times until one was accepted, you can try and do at home on your phone or camera but if that fails you can do in a passport photograph booth, make sure you select passport photo (unlike one of our times youngster picked driving licence) because you get a reference number you can just add onto application and your photo is there (big brother really is watching us it makes life so much easier!).

Anything they need outstanding you get quite quick correspondence which will tell you exactly what is missing.

You can always phone the helpline number before you send everything off just to make sure as well.

@dementedpixie I have had a passport but its well out if date about 20years. Yes think might be alot easier if we do ours 1st

@Helpstress2025 yours will be a renewal if you had a previous passport. You will need someone to countersign your application. That can be done online if you provide an email address for that person.
