Greasy hair

Hi just wondering are some people more prone to greasy hair than others.
I have tried all the tips, now going on 40 so maybe just my hair type.
I have tried leaving for a long time between washes, especially when children were young and off work, I spent the whole time with greasy hair.
I have tried quick wash to get everything off then a proper shampoo straight after.
I wash my hair then the next day looks greasy, the day after it looks wet with grease, it just looks so wet through grease.
I have met a lot of different people through work and some can go a while without washing but still don't get the wet grease look

I think low porosity straight fine hair is the worst for lookin greasy. Wash twice with shampoo like head n shoulders and skip conditionner. Wash your hair everyday.

I wash mine every day. Its straight and fine. You can't really control how much oil you produce outside of taking medication like the contraceptive pill. Some people are just greasier than others. Washing less doesn't work (I.e you wouldn't wash an oily face less)

I have greasy hair and I just wash my hair with shampoo everyday. There's no other real solution. Some days, I use a conditioner, the others I have leave-in serum that I use on damp hair.

Wash your hair, dry with hair dryer and then use dry shampoo straight away. Using dry shampoo before the grease starts makes a massive difference

This, really important to blow dry your hair after you wash it. This, combined with dry shampoo on the day it is washed allows my hair to go 2 days.

Thank you for the reply's
I have had lots of people tell me I just need to train my hair, wash it less but I know that doesn't work for me.
I have tried every shampoo going and just use conditioner on ends of hair.
Looks like I am just prone to greasy hair.
Great tip about the dry shampoo as I do use it but not until my hair starts looking greasy.
I will try it before

Have you tried putting dry shampoo in your hair on an evening before bed. I do this sometimes when I can feel it start getting greasy and it helps me last a bit longer til next hair wash

I haven't no, I think I will give this a try as I use dry shampoo but not until it's greasy.
Think I will try tonight before I go to bed

100% dry shampoo on clean blow dried hair. Mine is the same as yours Op and using Got2be fresh it up as soon as I've blow dried my hair means I can get 2 days down and then one day up before I have to wash again. Plus my hair looks thicker. Changed my life.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 12/01/2025 15:01

Yes before bed is good too, for upkeep but most importantly on hair wash day, it’ll help with volume too.

i found garnier ultimate blends oat shampoo really helped mine, (double shampoo) no idea why. It’s quite cheap too

Cerialkiller · 12/01/2025 15:09

I've also tried everything. My hair is fine and straight but also thick so it takes forever to dry so I really can't wash daily as I would spend half my life with wet hair or wreck it with drying so frequently.

The only 2 solutions I found was post partum hormones. Didn't need to wash it for a week, skin was so dry it literally cracked.

Second solution is as pp. Dry shampoo the evening before you need it. Do for me the evening after washing it that morning. I usually give it a follow up spritz the next day too but have seen the difference of doing it before you need it.

CrushingOnRubies · 12/01/2025 15:13

I have your type of hair op.

The best thing I've done is started dying it. Because it sucks moisture out of the hair and where as once I had to wash my hair religiously I can now wash it every other day or third day at a push.

kiana2015 · 12/01/2025 15:14

I'm the same the only thing that works for me is batiste coloured dry shampoo I've tried everything else I can now get 6 days out of my hair where I only used to get 1
