Can someone save me from the never ending Hemnes IKEA day bed fitted sheet saga

So against my better judgement but to ease the teenage trauma of moving house I have bought DS the Hemnes day bed. I also bought a 80/200cm sheet from IKEA as apparently this is the size of the mattresses that I was also forced to buy because the bed is an odd shape.

Now it was at this point I should have walked away from the whole thing but no I persevered only to find the sheet is ridiculously huge even when covering both mattresses (because not only do they fleece you for one but two mattresses with this particular bed!)

So owners of Hemnes day beds which sheets do you use? Do you use one on each mattress or one covering both? Please say it is possible to sort this out without having to go back to IKEA because I was gridlocked both on the way in and the way out today and would prefer not to go back even if they do have yummy hotdogs.

You need a European size. They’re a bit longer than standard ones. Try La redoute, you can filter by size.

Or you can order ikea ones online and delivery is only about £5. The ones we from there went bobbly though. They were a kind of jersey material

you only need two mattresses if you’ll be using it pulled out. I use one sheet over both when it’s set up as a single and one king size sheet when it’s extended out.

@TheBunyipthank you. The sheet we got from IKEA said it was for 80/200 but there just seems so much loose material even after going over both mattresses. I guess we will get used to it just seems a bit of a faff when you can usually pick up standard single sheets anywhere.

I have two of these beds with two mattresses. I use a normal single sheet when it's single and a king size one for a double. Works no issue.

Ah I might try a normal single sheet then because that would be so much easier.

We use normal single sheet and when it’s out big we use a kingsize sheet.

I've bought bedding for ikea beds from eBay. They do different colours.

NewMe2024 · 11/01/2025 22:43

Pretty sure that IKEA does a specific size that is the only one that fits properly.

OP I wonder if you got sheets for deeper mattresses ? That would explain the extra fabric. H&M have a wide range of sheet sizes, as do John Lewis, but if you get a standard (not fitted) single sheet it can be folded under properly.
