Charlie Bingham ready meals

£9.80 for a pasta ready meal.

I don't know quite what I was expecting but I was so disappointed. Are the curry ones any better?

(Currently looking after someone in end of life care, cooking from scratch isn't possible)

I really like the fish pie.
I only buy it on offer though!

ShanghaiDiva · 11/01/2025 20:55

Curry ones not bad, but only buy them when on offer.

I am a good cook but do buy Charlie Bighams in similar circumstances to yours.

I think they're pretty good - I really like their Thai curries and their chilli.

But like other people, I only buy them on offer.

I don’t buy them often, but we do like them. I tend to buy the single person size of the fish pie and the lasagne which we share between the two of us with lots of veg. Two person portion is too much. I do get us one each of the Thai curries though.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 11/01/2025 20:57

Fish pie and lasagne are nice. I got very excited when dp bought pies, as they have lovely eramic dishes to keep after. But then icrealised it meant there was only a pastry lid, which makes for a very sad pie. Still love the dishes though.

Lashserum · 11/01/2025 20:58

Not that worth it for me although I haven’t checked- are they less processed than others ? I like the M&S pasta ones.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 11/01/2025 21:00

COOK are miles better in my opinion. I'm not a fan of CB.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 11/01/2025 21:00

At these prices you can only expect to be disappointed. They're not even that big. I haven't eaten one because even when they are yellow stickers, they are too expensive. I see them and think they are for the opposite kind of person to me (wastes money and has money to burn) but even that doesn't make sense as it's a ready meal and I love a ready meal!

Snowmanscarf · 11/01/2025 21:01

They seem overpriced to me.

Cynic17 · 11/01/2025 21:05

I really like them, but I don't look at the prices.

Pedallleur · 11/01/2025 21:09

On offer only for us. I like the curries but full price? No.

Move22 · 11/01/2025 21:14

Another vote for COOK ready meals ( frozen) never fail to impress.

SpaceRaiders · 11/01/2025 21:16

Cook are better value imo.

IAmNeverThePerson · 11/01/2025 21:16

another vote for COOK

Pixie2015 · 11/01/2025 21:16

The chilli is lovely but due to cost we normally have as treat meal or when on offer

Ifailed · 11/01/2025 21:17

over-priced rubbish.

PinkTonic · 11/01/2025 21:18

It’s Charlie Bigham’s

I like the butter chicken, fish pie and chicken genovese pasta. They’re handy when time is short. I don’t care about the price.

ProbableDoris · 11/01/2025 21:19

It feels like they’ve gone from an expensive treat that I’d have occasionally to something extortionate that I won’t even consider when they have a yellow sticker.

I really rate the chicken tikka masala and the fish pie but frankly it feels like I’m paying for their celebrity voiceovers (doubt Richard Osman comes cheap) rather than the meal itself so I won’t be buying them again.

piscofrisco · 11/01/2025 21:20

The Thai green curry is nice. But tiny!

IhadaStripeyDeckchair · 11/01/2025 21:21

I've bought them a couple of times when they were on offer but they're nothing to write home about.

As PP have said COOK are the best ready meal option IME. The garlic chicken curry & sag paneer are favourites here.
The microwave lunch/supper pots are good; add some veg & they're a filling meal.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 11/01/2025 21:23

I really like the fish pie and lasagne, but way too expensive for us. We used to buy on offer or yellow sticker, but since covid they've gotten really pricey

Seawolves · 11/01/2025 21:23

I agree with a PP who suggested COOK meals, they do a delivery service if you can't get them locally (our Co-op stock them so I usually get mine from there).

CoastalCalm · 11/01/2025 21:24

I like the cottage pie but only ever buy when yellow stickered

LadyKenya · 11/01/2025 21:25

I once tried the moussaka meal, as it was on a yellow sticker. Never again, it looked nice on the plate, but that was about it. Tasteless is the only way to describe it.

SarahAndQuack · 11/01/2025 21:26

I've bought them as yellow stickers, but always found they have a slightly odd mouthfeel, a bit as if the fat has gone grainy/not emulsified properly - a bit like if you cook something with melted butter, and then put it in the fridge, and the butter goes funny as it solidifies?
