Charlie Bingham ready meals

£9.80 for a pasta ready meal.

I don't know quite what I was expecting but I was so disappointed. Are the curry ones any better?

(Currently looking after someone in end of life care, cooking from scratch isn't possible)

I really like them. I got a chicken tikka masala for £4.70 in Sainsbury today. I like the meatballs too.

LookingforMaryPoppins · 11/01/2025 22:30

I like them but think the price has become poor value. The curry's are good but not enough sauce IMO so always a disappointment!

Scutterbug · 11/01/2025 22:30

Overpriced but the fish pie is nice.

M&S and Sainsbury’s ready meals are god quality and value. Cook are variable I find, love their Mediterranean lamb stew.

IncessantNameChanger · 11/01/2025 22:32

It would be cheaper for you pick up some micro rice and a proper Indian takeaway. Takeaway could do two servings and you could get two at a time so four meals. Bet it would taste nicer too.

I'm sorry your dealing with this. I think I'd live off chow mein from the Chinese.

Have COOK improved in recent years? We got bought a box during covid after birth of DS1 and didn’t really rate them, especially nNot compared to Charlie Binghams.

What about the ‘cook’ range you can order online…I’ve sent to new mum friends

the CB line is seen as a luxury range of regular food as its oven instead of microwave because of the wood material liner, of course you can decant

but that’s the marketing..it’s a treat so pay extra and take the time to treat yourself

Charlie Bigham's big selling point is that the meals are fresh, made from entirely fresh ingredients and never frozen.

It’s MN, everyone just eats ‘massive salads’ on here. I’m surprised people are admitting to eating these meals!

(And yes, they are tiny)

I know, I know - 'Massive salads' and chickens that feed four people for a week.

Meanwhile, in the normal world a CB 'serves 2' is barely enough for two adults unless you are treating it as the entreé of a three course meal and bulking out with extra vegetables.

I really like the fish pie.
I only buy it on offer though!

I too like the fish pie.

Mum2jenny · 11/01/2025 22:41

Not impressed with the Charlie Bigham meals we’ve had.

Horrace · 11/01/2025 22:41

I tried the fish pie expecting something wonderful but was bitterly disappointed.

72hoursinaande · 11/01/2025 22:42

Another vote for Cook. Lifesaver when I had newborns

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/01/2025 22:43

Love the fish pie had one tonight!
yes expensive but far better than standard ready meals

Cook is better tho, yes

warmcatsofa · 11/01/2025 22:44

I find them quite bland and very salty.

Solent123 · 11/01/2025 22:45

I find them very bland as well

lifeonmars100 · 11/01/2025 22:46

I think the prices are outrageous now, used to sometimes treat myself to the fish pie and liked it, but I cannot bring myself to pay that amount of money even for a timesaving treat. Never head of Cook but have just had a quick browse of their website, it does look good and there seems to be lots of choice. Fancy some of their stuff to put in the freezer for when I can't face cooking

Chewbecca · 11/01/2025 22:46

I like the fish pie, Spanish chicken with potatoes and the chicken and mash. I add some fresh veg on the side to fill us up, can’t quite believe someone would share the one person portion between 2!
I also rate puds from Cook, specifically the STP and the aforementioned mango cheesecake.

RebelMoon · 11/01/2025 22:47

Agree. I find the CB 'serves 2' meals are too much for 1 person but not quite enough for 2.

I think what this thread shows is that what's right for some people is not right for others. We all have different tastes.

bridgetreilly · 11/01/2025 22:48

Also a fan of COOK here. Wondering about trying Stocked, though. Has anyone given them a go?

Snackpocket · 11/01/2025 22:49

The tikka masala sauce is delicious but there is nowhere near enough of it!

Lancasterel · 11/01/2025 22:53

Have only tried the Indian curries but all very nice and generous portions for two.

HelloPossible · 11/01/2025 22:53

I was a carer for a loved one at home and was recommended Oakhouse food by medical staff, a very big selection of meals, they do also do meals for a small appetite and also puréed foods. I used to order a few for myself as well to save cooking. They deliver once a week. I thought they were pretty good.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 11/01/2025 22:54

I like the CB chicken tikka masala but it feels like there’s less chicken in there than there used to be.

Blinky21 · 11/01/2025 22:55

We get them frequently I find they are really good quality, the portions have shrunk a lot recently though. We had the chicken jalfrezi last night, which was good

Solaire18381 · 11/01/2025 23:00

To me, the lasagne is the best ready meal lasagne brand. Haven't found any gristle like some of them. Also the chicken tikka masala is quite nice.
