Charlie Bingham ready meals

£9.80 for a pasta ready meal.

I don't know quite what I was expecting but I was so disappointed. Are the curry ones any better?

(Currently looking after someone in end of life care, cooking from scratch isn't possible)

The Thai red is fabulous!

GreyBlackBay · 11/01/2025 21:27

The fish pie is lovely, dh and ds like the meatballs too. The curry's are nice enough. The ingredients are much better than most ready meals so I do buy when on offer.

Agree that Cook is much better and not much more expensive.

Perimenoanti · 11/01/2025 21:27

Had the salmon one once. Wasnt it supposed to be for two people and I ate both because I didn't feel satisfied? Possibly they were on offer buy two for X. Never bothered again. I can get a chicken shish for 14 quid from my Turkish local and it's enough for lunch and dinner.

I agree with Cook!
We were supposed to be getting a Cook! Shop in our town in back in August but it keeps getting delayed.
The desserts always look amazing.

I much prefer CB to Cook! Nicer cuts of meat.

BashfulClam · 11/01/2025 21:31

DH likes the korma but it’s too expensive now. Can’t justify £9 for a meal for one person. It does smell nicer than most ready meal curries.

I like the cottage pie but only ever buy when yellow stickered

I do not like any of their meals. They're bland and horrendously overpriced.

Icanttakethisanymore · 11/01/2025 21:33

Cook are much better imo

COOK are miles better in my opinion. I'm not a fan of CB.

I second COOK over Charlie B meals

ISawGoodyProctorWithTheDevil · 11/01/2025 21:35

Wildly overpriced, small portions - not worth it

Boffle · 11/01/2025 21:36

DH likes them but I find them too salty. Also very large portions if you are cooking for one person, especially if they are unwell.
I think other brand "finest" ranges are better. My preference would be Sainsbury's taste the difference although again, quite big portions.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 11/01/2025 21:37

It's not something I would eat personally as it is expensive and I can cook better myself but they have been a godsend for my elderly Dad who doesn't want a big portion but likes tasty food but can't stand for long enough to properly cook now. He also likes the Cook ones.

SuffolkUnicorn · 11/01/2025 21:38

Not bothered about the price but they were nothing ‘woo’

I totally agree that COOK are better.

I don’t mind CB though - particularly liked the beef bourguignon I had from there fairly recently.

SuffolkUnicorn · 11/01/2025 21:39

Never tried cook our village shop sells them I might give them a go

oknowimscared · 11/01/2025 21:39

My local garden centre has Cook freezer range - love it. Way better than CB’s overpriced tiny portions.

GameOfJones · 11/01/2025 21:39

I don't think the pasta ones are anything special, but I really like the curry ones. The butter chicken is fantastic. But I still only would buy them on offer. For me, it's an alternative to a takeaway so £8 or £9 for a ready meal is very expensive.....but way better than spending £30 getting an Indian takeaway.

Second this. COOK meals are incredible. The lasagne is lush.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 11/01/2025 21:42

I have only bought when reduced, I wasn’t too impressed by the curry (Tikka Masala I think) but did enjoy the macaroni cheese. I wouldn’t pay full price though. I haven’t checked the ingredients but would assume they have less additives/ artificial colourings and flavours than a standard ready meal hence the price.

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/01/2025 21:43

Aldi lasagne, fish pie, chilli are far nicer and less expensive.
Turner’s pies are good and they do online orders.

GinnyW · 11/01/2025 21:44

As a vegetarian I find the Cook meals really boring but the Charlie Bigham ones are really delicious. Yes expensive but better than a take away.

RebelMoon · 11/01/2025 21:45

VesperLind · 11/01/2025 20:57

I don’t buy them often, but we do like them. I tend to buy the single person size of the fish pie and the lasagne which we share between the two of us with lots of veg. Two person portion is too much. I do get us one each of the Thai curries though.

You share one single portion fish pie or lasagne between the two of you? Are you sparrows?

BoooHiss · 11/01/2025 21:45

Really don’t get the love for COOK- CB much nicer imo. Ingredients list on COOK disappointed me for the price - lots of artificial stuff

Britpopbaby · 11/01/2025 21:45

I like the cottage pie one but have only ever bought them when they have been in the reduced section at Waitrose.

Level75 · 11/01/2025 21:46

The macaroni cheese is great. Properly rich and cheesy.
