I am considering starting mounjaro but the only thing holding me back are the stories of people losing their hair. Can you tell me id you have experienced this and possibly what exactly caused it and how you resolved this?

I think the hair loss comes from any rapid weight loss? If you dose up sensibly shouldn't be an issue

I'm on ozempic and it's changed my life.

I lost a stone a month for seven months on Slimming World eventually losing ten stone. i lost not one strand of hair due to this. The mental gymnastics people are performing over these weight loss injections are really something

I’ve lost 3 stone so far on mounjaro over 5 months.

i look and feel so much healthier. No hair loss. I haven’t really had any bad side effects apart from being a bit burpy for a day or two after each injection

MountKilimounjaro · 11/01/2025 15:14

As people say above, hair loss is not a side effect of Mounjaro but it can be a side effect from weight loss. The good news is that it tends to be temporary and it does grow back.

I've lost six stone since starting nine months ago. I did notice a lot of hair loss to begin with but that slowed down and is now thickening back up.

Making sure you eat a good amount of protein helps both with hair loss and general fitness.

How much is Mounjaro? I have other health issues and need to know if I'd be ok on it. I'm struggling to lose weight normally 😔

ThirdStorm · 11/01/2025 16:18

I’m on MJ. Lost 5st and feel great. Still figuring out how to maintain the weight loss, that will take some time. I’ve lost hair, shedding really but I’ve lost it in cycles for a few years now, doc thinks it’s related to peri. Thanks to starting MJ, I have also introduced healthy eating and generally taking care of myself plus lots of vitamins. I take collagen and biotin to help reduce the hair loss.

Thanks all for your insight. I'm still quite unsure about it at the moment

It varies depending on where you buy it. For example, Boots is around £200 and ASDA pharmacy is around £180 If I remember correctly

I've lost 5 stone on it with no side effects and no hair loss.

I'm still on it to lose 1 more stone and feel healthier than I have in years.

TidyDancer · 11/01/2025 23:15

@ChristmasPudd1990 - you're looking at between £110 upwards for the first pen depending on who you go with. Avoid the big name pharmacies like Boots/Superdrug etc because they rely on people knowing their names and think it means it's better. There are lots of online pharmacies who work out a lot cheaper (I'm with MedExpress but there are lots of others - medication is obviously the same so it's down to cost and service).

@ShadowTheHedgehog - I haven't experienced hair loss on this (been on it since August) but like other posters have suggested, it's a symptom of weight loss that some people have rather than the mounjaro specifically to blame.

Look on monj.co.uk for a list of registered pharmacies that are safe to buy from and prices, they can vary a lot, prices increase if you need to go up doses.

I lost 7 stone with Mounjaro. I did have some hair loss (I noticed hair coming out in the shower but I can't tell from looking at my hair) but it has stopped now. Other than that the side effects were minimal

healthybychristmas · 11/01/2025 23:29

On the way to a four stone loss in six months. The difference to my life has been incredible. Always lost a bit of her but I haven't noticed it happening more since I've been on it.

ChimneyRock · 11/01/2025 23:32

I buy from Oushk and used a beginner's discount initially, and a 10% discount code since. I pay around the £150 mark currently (for a higher dose of 7.5mg).
No side effects at all (apart from some mild constipation which has now dissipated).

Edited

I think the difference is you were probably eating healthy meals, sorry I don’t know much about slimming world or how it works but my friends eats lots on it. I’ve got 2 friends on Mourjano, they eat very little as they have no appetite and have experienced hair loss.

Edited to add what a fantastic loss.

I am 56 and lost hair a bit on top, about 3 months in, but it wasn't noticeable to anyone else it just felt a little different when I ran my fingers through it. It was only temporary though and is caused by the shock of weight loss not the medication. I started a regime of hair and skin vitamins and now my hair is longer and in better condition than its ever been in my life. Lots of people have commented how glossy it looks. my skin is also plump and no loose skin despite losing 4 stone.

Hello @Mum20089, you've posted on a thread for weight loss injections, I think it might be best if you post on a different board. Good luck.
