Can anyone advise me on using laxido?

I took a sachet yesterday morning and then again in the evening- should I wait now for it to work or continue taking 1-2 sachets a day? It hasn’t worked as yet

also I read on the back the different recommended amount for constipation vs impaction- how do I know which I have? I understand the difference by definition but now sure how to tell if I’m impacted or not? Thanks

In my experience… wait. I didn’t, and had to spend several days unable to leave the house.

Anonym00se · 11/01/2025 08:24

Keep taking the sachets until you go. If I havent had any joy in a couple of days I add an extra sachet.

How long is it since you’ve opened your bowels at all? Impaction is quite rare and serious. If you’re impacted then it’s probably better to take something stronger than a stool softener.

You need to be drinking lots and lots of extra water. Laci do works by pulling water into the bowel to make the stool softer. The more you are able to drink the more effective it will be.
1 sachet does seem quite a low dose though

The box says 1-2 sachets a day so that’s why I started on that. I will up my water intake for sure

Drink water like it's going out of fashion. Keep a bottle or flask by your side and have a good drink every hour at least.

a major reason why people get constipated is due to poor hydration.

I drink about 2.5l after a day normally but I will increase it as best I can

Is your diet worth looking at - plenty of non- processed fruit and veg. Roughage is also really important.

To be honest, my constipation started a few months ago when I started eating better and totally changed up my diet, I’ve been trying to lose weight and eating a lot more fruit and veg and less takeaways

Advice received from a hospital doctor was keep taking it until you go. Consistency is key with this medication, is what we were told.

BeyondMyWits · 11/01/2025 08:43

Is your problem with poop being hard or with lack of urge to go. Both are treated differently. Softening helps with the first, but doesn't with the second.

Would speak to any pharmacist, they can advise.

Lack of urge to go, feel ‘full’ and backed up but no feeling of needing to go. I did explain that to the dr but he gave laxido

Would go speak to a pharmacist and say exactly that. Sounds like you need further help.

isitme111 · 11/01/2025 11:29

From my experience it can take 2/3 days to be effective. I would continue with one sachet for another few days.

midgetastic · 11/01/2025 11:32

It's a bit experiment and learn your own body I think - no simple rule

That said - I'd be minded to have another one

Yes you may have a lot to come out once it moves - nearly a weeks worth in a few hours is possible

Sounds like your body is just needing time to adapt to the better diet

Well done improving your diet @Gingerred2 try not to be too discouraged by this short term issue.

Bodies are amazing things, they are sensitive to change which causes some temporary disruption in normal functioning but good diet and hydration over the long term and esp minimising UPF will have positive results.

Your user name reminds me, if you get some root ginger, slice it up and gently boil in a saucepan of water, the ginger will infuse into the water. Let it cool and drink a glass or two at dinner and breakfast. It has anti inflammatory properties and calms the gut plus helps hydrate you. You can also chop up the cooked ginger and add it to salads, recipes, or crunch on it during the day. It's delicious x

Also TMI if I have went bit (but def nowhere near what I need to) do I keep taking the laxido or just assume that’s things moving?

Nasty stuff. I hope its not the antidepressants causing the blockage.

Kentuckycriedfrickin · 11/01/2025 17:10

DC takes Laxido and, when they're massively bunged up, the advice from the GP is to double the dose every day up to a maximum of 12 sachets a day and to keep going until they reach a stage where they're basically just passing water. That means everything is out and you can go back to a maintenance dose of 1-2 sachets a day.
