I was driving to work this morning and it was minus 5. My windscreen got completely covered in salt from the road and I couldn't see out. This accumulated over 20 minutes. I couldn't use my screen wash as it was frozen and I had to wait ages to find a place to pull over where I dumped a bottle of water on it. I've never known this in 30 years of driving. What can I do for driving home as it will be minus 3?

Defrost your water jets before setting off.

Possibly top up with stronger windscreen wash? Mines you dilute in summer etc but in winter use it neat and it’ll work till -20 or so.

Defrost water jets and put a better screen wash. Most only go to -5 you need a stronger one if it’s really cold.

I have anti freeze in my windscreen wash so it doesn’t freeze, and as part of thawing my car out I make sure the squirter is working before driving off.

In another scenario I have been known to pour a bottle of water out of my driver window onto my windscreen when driving when unexpectedly I got splashed by mud and had run out of windscreen wash on the journey - but I wouldn’t recommend that.

Thanks just topped up with some minus 10 wash. Can't unblock rear wiper, but not too concerned about that. Bring on the double figures next week!

Edit - crosspost I started writing this when there were no replies but then got distracted for a while and I see my contribution is no longer needed...

Your windscreen wash should be much more concentrated in frosty weather than it is in summer. Have you drained and refilled it since the cold weather started? You can pick up a litre from Sainsburys or a petrol station. Also keep a bottle of de-icer spray in the car - sometimes I have had to stick a hand out of the window (when stationary at traffic lights) and spray the windscreen with that to help the wipers along

Also, buy a windscreen cover, for when car is parked, saves scraping.
