Where to go on holiday whilst pregnant in March? Everywhere has zika!

Hello!

DP and I are looking at a 2 week holiday in March when I’ll be 23 ish weeks pregnant. I’d imagined somewhere warm, long haul for a relaxing break but when I’ve started googling so many of the options in Caribbean, Asia, even parts of Europe are off the cards because of Zika virus!

Can anyone recommend anywhere they’ve been around that time of year that was safe for pregnancy?

Thanks!

We went to Madeira (it is lovely) but it is on the zika “risk” list - not there yet but they think might be soon?

Although I always always get bitten, and I didn’t.

Other than that you’ve got Canaries, Portugal, South of France…?

UAE has no Zika risk if you're thinking long haul so Dubai/Abu Dhabi. Shorter haul Cyprus or the canaries but much lower temps if heat is what youre after though still early 20's

Japan is nice that time of year.

The Canaries! Not long haul but tbh it's a comfortable length flight when you're pregnant. Parts of Tenerife are so beautiful and it'll be about 24 degrees in March. Can highly recommend Gran Tacande as a fab resort, get a gold room with a hot tub and you also get access to the nice VIP parts of the hotel. It's right next to a lovely (and not too busy beach). I went when I was pregnant with my son and still sigh thinking about how relaxed I was that week.

South Africa? Cape Town and the surrounding area is beautiful.

I don’t have any advice yet but following along with interest - I’m 20 weeks now and we’re hoping for a week in the sun in late Feb / early March when I’m 27/28 weeks.

We normally have really active (hiking) holidays so really unsure where to go and what to do!

Our holidays are also pretty active and love hiking! Can maybe do some mild walking but not really as the main focus! Looked at Chile which is apparently fairly warm and free of Zika virus. But not sure if it would be a waste as the hiking and outdoor activities would be the main draw and I probably can’t do much of it!

Following because I'm in exactly the same situation. Normally do nature holidays or city breaks, not a beach bum. Would like warm, Zika free, and March or April 2025

There is a report of Zika in Tenerife a few years ago but also people say it's Zika free. No idea how to follow this up? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.birminghammail.co.uk/travel/uk-tourists-canary-islands-warned-29493850.amp

As someone who tends to head for lakes and trees to go birdwatching, this is a worry! I probably just would strike it off my list if I had to stay on the beach!

UK tourists in Canary Islands warned to 'avoid water and trees'

Aedes tiger mosquitos were found in containers arriving from Castellón in mainland Spain to parts of the Canary Islands.

@queenstone Let me know if you find something! It’s a real pain this time of year isn’t it!
