Planning to leave in the future

There is no chance I can anytime soon owing to financial reasons / many other things.

Wise MNetters- if you planned to leave within 2-3 years perhaps, what would you do now to forward plan? Nobody has done anything awful but we are two people who really should never have been together, we are so different and as time has marched on it’s painfully obvious. Every day I feel so hurt and misunderstood. We are very very incompatible :( I don’t want anyone else, probably ever haha. I just want to be on my own.

(and yes I’ve tried absolutely everything, the other person just seemingly wants to bury their head in the sand and not change a thing, I am utterly miserable every single day and dream of a life with my child)

The biggest thing you can do is get your finances and career in order. Get yourself into a well paying job so that you can pay for yourself and DC.

Also, work on your social support network so that you are not going it alone, both for the time while you are preparing and also once you leave.

2 or 3 years is a long time to be miserable. Think about what you can do now to improve your financial situation to a point where you can leave sooner rather than later. Could you manage if you were to get child support or UC?

wishing you all the best!

Work and money. If you have joint finances, start separating them. You don't say if you are married, but if you are, start prepping for the legal process.

If you have a property that will need to be sold, start getting it ready, decluttering, mending, decorating etc. Work out what you will need and get rid of surplus.

Having a plan with an end goal will help you deal with the situation and give you some positives to work towards.
