New neighbour etiquette

Just intrigued on what others do.

Do you normally make a point of saying 'hello' to neighbours when you move into a new street (in this instance a large cul-de-sac?)

Also, do you let neighbours know if you're having work done that might cause them noise or dust?

It's not really an issue, but something a neighbour said in our road got me thinking.

Yes (unless they introduce themselves to me first) and yes.

I'll say hello if I recognise a neighbour. I don't know my neighbours so I don't tell them about works.

I would make a point of saying hello to direct neighbours but not everyone in the street. I wouldn't knock on doors though - I'd just say hello if i saw them out on the street. Not sure I would mention any work unless i was sure they would be affected in any way, I might mention it in passing. We just recently had an extension put on and prior to building work I mentioned it in passing but I also gave them the heads up they would be likely receiving a planning application letter.

When we moved into our current home our direct neighbours left us a bottle of wine on our doorstep which I thought was lovely.

What did your neighbour say?
