I have always suffered with greasy hair, but could normally get 2/3 days before it went greasy.

Now it's 24 hours and it's greasy! Please help, I don't know what else to do, I have tried different products etc!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

I used to have this. Now I shampoo only the roots. There was a helpful yt that showed how

It can be hormones. One of many symptoms DD had which pointed to PCOS and the first symptom to go after being diagnosed and starting on Dianette. Prior to seeing the GP we tried a clarifying shampoo and also smothering dry scalp in aloe Vera gel and then washing out which did help to a point. It was treating the symptom rather than the course. You need to try and find out why the change.

What shampoo are you using? And any other products?

Do you have straight/wavy/curly hair?

I was just about to say it might be PCOS. This is exactly what I had, very greasy skin and hair. I had to wash my hair daily or it looked like I had poured the chip pan on it. Do you have any other symptoms of PCOS?
I knew I had reached the menopause because almost overnight my skin and hair just stopped being greasy.

I'm not sure if mine has changed, I think I might have previously thought it was fine to have to wash my hair every day. It's really annoying though. I don't really know where to start re tackling it.

Itsabeautifulthing · 09/01/2025 07:25

What colour is your hair? I have naturally fine/thin hairy that gets greasy and so I do highlights as the bleach dried out the hair, not a full head just a few around my face and on top. Please avoid dry shampoo if you have thin/fine hair as i had terrible hair loss from this about 5 years ago and it took over a year to recover

This is also a problem for me… some tips.

The best shampoo I’ve found is Lush ‘squeak’. It’s in a tub.
I shampoo twice.

Always blow dry.

Apply some dry shampoo immediately after blow dry.

bit more dry shampoo before bed!

Products… Volumising dry shampoos work better than regular ones in my opinion. Superdrug own brand is good (bright pink can)

New Aveda one is great but expensive although I think it will last for ages,it’s a very fine powder and not an aerosol.

K18 Airwash is a new one. It’s actually a liquid which is weird and claims to last for 3 days!! It is the best the best thing I have tried. Absolutely amazing but it is hideously expensive…. £48!!!! It is not an aerosol though and I think it will last for months.

i have no idea if it’s true but I feel like I kinda retrained my hair. Just coped with the grease for an extra day until it was ok for 2 days, then 3 etc. now I can probably go about 6 days ( feels horrible at 4 though so I usually wash it then.). I did it in lockdown as wasn’t seeing anyone 😂.

also blow dry rather than air dry. Dunno why makes a huge difference

jazmine67 · 10/01/2025 07:08

Thank you,

I only shampoo my roots, have tried so many different shampoos, I don't know what else to try!
I don't have anything else PCOS wise, apart from being overweight bmi of 27.

Any other advice? Thank you

Ok this is a bit gross, I've just had flu and didn't wash my hair for two weeks, my scalp was too sore. After day 4 it wasn't greasy at all.

I do have greasy hair and like the body shop ginger shampoo and a lot of batiste.

Readysetgooo · 10/01/2025 08:04

I had this problem years ago. Shampoo and conditioners are full of plastic which just didn't agree with my hair. I use lush shampoo because it's natural. I've tried quite a few but favourites are Cynthia Sylvia Stout or Seanik and, like PP, wash twice. After washing, I use a lush leave in conditioner that's really light. I wash my hair daily but could definitely get an extra day if I didn't.

Tryingtohelp12 · 10/01/2025 12:08

Also I use a scalp masager to really scrub my head and definitely get an extra day when I use it compared to when I don’t!

Just come back to this thread as I just changed my shampoo because of an issue with glop at the end of the bottle that wasn't lathering properly, and my hair seems a lot better with my new shampoo 😮!

I've used the same shampoo for ages, I wonder if it made me think my hair is actually worse than it is. I'm on day 2 with the new shampoo today, and my hair is alright 🙂.

The new shampoo is a Faith in Nature one btw.
