Hi
Complicated, tedious and technical, sorry! Charity/club Bank Issues

I am new in post and a bank account has out of date signatory information.

Updating it is proving complicated as I’m not a signatory.

When you enter information for the signatories to be contacted to authorise adding you, does it need to be the original information? Or just the post holders’ names and current contact information? Some of them have changed email address and/or phone number. 🤐

It shouldn’t be this hard!

Well it wouldn't be this hard if the information had been kept up to date.

I haven't worked in banking for a few years so things might have changed but we would have used the contact details that we have on file and not ones that a third party provided to us - how would we know that there were legit?

I used to work in a bank's head office in the risk department who dealt with dubious signatures, incorrect attempts to withdraw money etc. My best advice is to get the original signatories to sort out the updates, including making contact with the bank ideally in person with up to date ID, filling out any forms etc. This should have been their job and the bank shouldn't speak to anyone else about the account.

Also It shouldn’t be this hard! you definitely wouldn't be saying that if the bank let anyone empty your account on the third party's say-so! I know it hasn't worked out the way you wanted it to but try to see the reason behind the rules.

I totally do, but equally there needs to be a way of talking to someone who will answer questions and tell you what to do- what the information is for so you can give the useful information. It turned out I could have given the current phone number rather than the one they had before.

It’s going to take multiple attempts to line up the information, which is a shame for the people getting the emails!

I will have to push back onto an elderly volunteer and get them to wrestle with it, as they are the existing signatory. I’d hoped I could facilitate for them.
