Post Christmas shopping so dull

I'm missing the Christmas buzz. Today's shopping haul 2 packs of granny knickers from Primark which was deserted apart from one department. The one selling fleecy dressing gowns, pyjamas 😁

Then Asda for cat food, Rennie's and chicken dinner ingredients. Fuel, prescription from pharmacy and home again.

It'll be spring when there are various birthdays before I'll enjoy shopping again 😞

Count yourself luck you have money to spend before January payday!
also, eating the cat food might be causing your indigestion 😂

Sourisblanche · 08/01/2025 05:36

I need to buy coat hangers and a new hot water bottle today! Exciting timesSmile

ColdHenrietta · 08/01/2025 06:45

Do you really need to go into shops at all? Couldn’t all those things (apart from Primark and fuel) have been ordered online? It seems perverse to expect entertainment from shops right now.

Passthecake30 · 08/01/2025 06:47

January is all about reining it in for me, topping up the bank accounts. My inbox is full of sale offers though, some of which are quite attractive.

I went shopping with a friend and bought leggings, jeggings and a t-shirt. We both agreed that we had had a lovely day out and plan to do it again very soon. It was lovely to shop without Christmas music.

Cynic17 · 08/01/2025 07:09

I haven't been shopping for months (excepting food, of course). Why do you need to go at all, OP? Wait until the spring, and then maybe treat yourself.

OurDreamLife · 08/01/2025 07:11

What’s wrong with OP wanting to go shopping? Why does everything need to be done online? Some of us like going into a shop.

January blues! I have a new puppy so can't get out much at the moment and am going stir crazy - I will get 2 hours tomorrow to go to John Lewis and honestly the anticipation is killing me 🤣

Rocksaltrita · 08/01/2025 07:24

I’ve found the physical shops really uninspiring this year, but have bought a few bits online 😬

Soccermumamir · 08/01/2025 07:25

January is all about my ds' birthday 🤦‍♀️ I'd be over the moon if I didn't have to spend this month. Just the usual fuel and groceries lol

frozendaisy · 08/01/2025 07:45

To be fair OP you went to Primark and Asda which are places for essentials.

Have you tried a John Lewis/M&S something with a bit more variety? People who are out shopping shopping are likely to be looking at bigger ticket items in the sales.

We're in N Wales no department store bar M&S these days. I do buy a lot online because of this. I also buy Xmas presents over four months so I'm not slammed by bills in January because that's mot and road tax month.

Thank god you do, i work in a shop and need my job.

Went to Tesco yesterday. It was flat as a pancake. I love the pre Christmas buzz of excitement. Then again, the car park was nice and empty x

Bjorkdidit · 08/01/2025 10:35

Who even 'enjoys' shopping? It's a necessary evil when you need stuff. I would have thought it was more bearable at this time of year without the crowds and annoying Christmas music.

Yes I’m walking into town now to get my coat hangers. One of my new year resolutions is to use the high street more.

DonnaGiovanna · 08/01/2025 10:50

Yep, only essentials shopping for me till March when things start to brighten up. There is a certain satisfaction to not getting text alerts about going into your overdraft... It's dull though, I agree

ellibelly7 · 08/01/2025 10:59

I don't really enjoy shopping at all unless its for books or perhaps skincare. I'm also not a fan of big crowds so shopping in the run up to Christmas is my idea of hell! I try to do most of it online but sometimes you do need to get out and look at things or just to be hit with inspiration on what to buy for someone.

Now its post Christmas I prefer to avoid the shops altogether for as long as possible. I often quite like this period as we don't have any birthdays to buy gifts for until March so no need to go shopping. Our food shopping is also done online.

I was in the local Mall last week and while I was glad it was a bit quieter I found it depressing as always and it baffles me why people go there just to hang out and browse the shops but we're all different.

Normallynumb · 08/01/2025 14:56

I'm finding this too
I start buying presents early( to wait for discount codes) and it takes up spare time
I try to go out everyday as I don't work and live alone
I'm glad to have more money in the bank of course
The only thing I've actually bought in the sales is new tea towels!, but I agree shops are almost empty.
