To think £41/pm for water is wrong?

I live in a one bed flat. Just me and a small cat. I work 5am - 5pm most five days a week so am out of the house from about 4:30am to 6pm.

Wash clothing twice a week. I mostly shower at work (I have a physical job and get mucky most days!) but have a bath as a treat once a week. I don't flush the loo if it's just wee. I have a small dishwasher that uses about 4l per load which is on maybe four times a week. I'm genuinely not using much water. I grew up in a country where water was scarce and I'm very used to not wasting it.

I can't see a leak anywhere in the flat either.

Anglican Water are insisting that I must pay £41 per month on DD. I'm on a meter but have been unable to access it by myself - I'm going to ring them again tomorrow and ask for it to be read. Am I being mad?

I pay £205 every 6 months, for four bedroom, three bathroom house. I think my teens are wasteful, I do a clothes wash and dishwasher once a day,

A tip we got when similar happened to us was to check toilets, it turns out our toilet was constantly leaking from the cistern into the toilet bowl it was only a very small amount of water but it adds up because it was literally constant and not an obvious leak!

Will take a look, thank you!

is your latest bill estimated?

I pay £55 family of 4, washer on 2/3 times a day, 3-4 showers a day. Work from home mainly. Dishwasher on 1-2 times a day too.

I’m in SWW’s area and I recently had my DD paused because I had built up too much credit paying £20/mo for a two bed terrace! It’s just me and I shower daily, do laundry twice a week and have the dishwasher on about four times a week. I also only flush after two or three wees, not every time. SWW are one of the most expensive so I was quite shocked that it was so low.

That said, in an old flat I was on an assessed charge because I couldn’t have a meter, and SWW were charging me a ‘discounted’ rate of £90/mo for a 1-bed flat with no washing machine and only a shower. Even their own website said a typical assessed charge for a four bed house would be around £400/yr but the fuckers wouldn’t budge.

I'm with Severn Trent water and pay approximately £42 a month but I only pay it 8 months of the year from April until November so that works out at approximately £28 a month spread over the full year.
