Do you know when you're really poorly?

Not talking about a bit under the weather, i mean it's the season, we've all got sniffles and coughs but when you're about to be really unwell, do you always get the same symptoms?

For me, I'll always get really painful knees, they ache so much that i can hardly walk. And i can feel my hair, like my scalp is really sensitive. I know it sounds silly but was just wondering if anyone has a classic symptom of being poorly?

I ache everywhere, like anything. Just touching my skin hurts, and embarrassingly, I get quite tearful, which is odd because I'm quite stoic and like to get on with it when I've got simple sniffles.

I get a very odd sort of feeling. Back of my neck and head. It’s hard to describe but it’s unpleasant.

IfUCantDance · 06/01/2025 12:21

Aching legs and incredibly dry/sore lips.

I get absolutely exhausted and feel emotional (I'm not an emotional person). When I'm really ill il literally sleep 22 hours a day and cannot stay awake beyond getting a drink, taking meds, doing a pee . Thankfully now our kids are older it's fine but when my DH worked away and I once had flu with an 11 month old, 4 year old and 9 year old it was a nightmare.

GiddyRobin · 06/01/2025 13:15

I get quite shaky when I'm really getting ill. I do a soup test - if I'm feeling run down, I eat a bowl of soup. If the spoon is wobbling and I can't get it together to comfortably eat, I just know I'm going to end up with a bad one. If not, I'm just tired and probably have a mild cold. No idea why! It's a really weird one, but my sister is exactly the same. I've spotted her shaking a few times and pointed it out, and bam, she'll be floored with something the next day.

as far back as I can remember I’ll have a prophetic dream about wooden cogs this could be related to the fact that wooden bricks and beads were one of our main toys growing up but an unrelated old boss said he gets this too I’ll find the noise painful and “clashy” and unpleasant also to watch then I’ll slowly wake up and get worse and worse through the day then be properly ill 😳
with a migraine I’ll feel very detached from the world even the day before it starts then the slightly numb lips then we’re off 🤦🏽‍♀️

gamerchick · 06/01/2025 14:13

I always know when I'm incubating something from my fitbits health metrics, they go off normal. I can be feeling perfectly fine but it's there a day or so later. I can't lift my usual weights either.

Birdbox181 · 06/01/2025 14:19

Teeth and skin for me, like a tender, aching feeling.

The day I started with glandular fever, oh boy I just knew it was something next level.

Xiaoxiong · 06/01/2025 14:21

Another one to say that my skin hurts all over when I'm ill like @TomatoSandwiches and particularly my neck and head like @Msmoonpie. It's not muscle or joint pain, it's like the skin is sore and shivery all at the same time. I've often wondered if it's some kind of inflammatory response in all the nerves that run through my skin when my immune system is responding to an infection.

Namechange2272 · 06/01/2025 14:22

Sore back and/or mouth ulcers

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 06/01/2025 14:23

When really ill i ache everywhere, touching my skin hurts and get very cold and very hot

VoltaireMittyDream · 06/01/2025 14:23

I know I’m going to have a migraine the next day when I start yawning uncontrollably, and having a very calm and clear mental sensation that I might be going insane 🤔 .

Every time I catch a cold it progresses to a bacterial lung infection, and I know the moment the infection sets in because I feel a sharp crackling and popping sensation, like fireworks, in my chest.

GreatPlumPlayer · 06/01/2025 14:24

Recently, and while pregnant (!) I’ve had a week or so of low grade fever, headaches but also before this I got sensitive skin, as thought there were little pinches all over. Not pleasant. And very tight chested.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 06/01/2025 14:28

My bogies go bloody, my back hurts and I get a fever - those violent and uncontrollable shivers that involve your whole body.

Moonlightstars · 06/01/2025 14:30

I always feel ok but have the thought oh I haven't been ill for such a long time how strange. Then get absolutely floored.

familyissues12345 · 06/01/2025 14:33

My gums ache! That's when I'm feeling really rough

Gliblet · 06/01/2025 14:34

I can't speak in coherent sentences. Normally I'm very articulate but if I'm brewing a migraine or a serious virus or infection I turn into a worse-than-monosyllabic (can't even find the correct one syllable words for things) drivelling idiot.

yamafi · 06/01/2025 14:34

I have fibromyalgia so it can be hard to tell because I'm constantly sore including the sore skin or feeling bruised all over even burning mouth but i definitely get the sensitive scalp. Sair Hair is what I call it ( Scottish 😂)

CalicoPusscat · 06/01/2025 14:35

Yes aches like many, also fever can make me go a bit delusional if I try to take a catnap then it's confusing waking up.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/01/2025 14:37

I know when I have a virus coming on as get a persistent ache/pain in either a finger or a toe

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 06/01/2025 14:39

Yes achy all over and horribly sensitive skin, especially on my bum and thighs.

quirkychick · 06/01/2025 14:39

The top of my legs ache and I really go off dairy - my asthma can be sensitive to dairy. I also get the very sensitive scalp.
