Primary Schools in Chester UK

Hi all,
My family and I will be relocating to Hoole in Chester in the next couple of weeks and are wanting some advice on the local primary schools. I have checked with the council and there are a number with spaces available for my son's year level at this stage for an in year transfer (although I understand this may change before we arrive and submit our application).
Does anyone have any recent experience with Hoole CE and Grosvenor Park CE? Our main priorities are a focus on academics but also nurturing and a zero tolerance for bullying (or close to). We are not religious however are not adverse to our son being involved with daily prayers, Christian values and the like. We would however prefer him to make up his own mind as to whether he wants to follow a religious path without one being forced upon him (please excuse me if that sounds rude or ignorant, it's not intended to be!). Would one of these CE schools be better suited for a "non religious" family?
Separately, St Martin's does not have any space available however what are the chances of getting in on the waitlist if we were living approximately 0.2 miles away? I've heard it's a good school but just wondering if it's even worth looking if there's no chance of getting in (year 2).
We will obviously go and look at the schools before we apply, was just wanting some local knowledge in advance!
