Which flights don’t allow pets or do they all ?

Is there an airline which doesn’t allow pets? I have an extremely severe allergy to cats and dogs and a respiratory problem triggered by this . Despite inhalers and medication in an enclosed environment I get very ill.

I was thinking about holidays but I can’t see how it will be possible? It seems all airlines allow cats and dogs ? Does anyone know of one that doesn’t ? Tia

When we flew our cats back from Cyprus they traveled in the hold, not in the cabin. I’m not sure I have never seen pets travelling in the cabin in Europe, I don’t know if it’s different in the USA.

not all airlines can accept animals and there are only certain airports in the uk who will accept them (Gatwick, Birmingham, Glasgow and maybe Manchester?) so if you use a different airport there won’t be animals.

Your best bet would just be calling and asking.

Any budget airline or less major airport, as above

Loganair don't, but that limits your options somewhat. I'd just look at the info on website or phone if in doubt.

Can you not be in a cabin that has had pets in it at any time, or just can't have them in it while you are in it?

Tumbleweed101 · 05/01/2025 08:36

I’ve flown a fair bit over the years and never seen a pet in the actual cabin area. At least flying in and out of UK.

I have a feeling American domestic
flights are the ones where it seems more likely although I’ve not done domestic flights in other countries.

Twila1 · 05/01/2025 08:39

Recognised guide/assistance dogs usually travel in the cabin.

MiddleagedBeachbum · 05/01/2025 08:40

Most flights within Europe actually do allow small dogs on the flights, my friends have two small dogs and fly all over…. Except the UK, we don’t allow any dogs in the cabin so any flying from uk should be fine

SnowyIcySnow · 05/01/2025 08:44

Flights into the uk required pets in the hold ( I assume assistance dogs are seperate to this law).
Most uk carriers have pets in the hold outbound too.

I'd talk to someone like Jet2, that has a uk base. But I don't think they would guarantee a pet had never been in the cabin, if that is the issue. I'd also be clear when you contact them if it us that flight you need pet free, or the previous fights too.

notimagain · 05/01/2025 08:46

It’s almost unheard of to see pets in the cabin on flights into/out of UK, though I think you might see some exceptions on outbound flights with some European operators.

As @Twila1 has mentioned you do occasionally see assistance dogs.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 05/01/2025 08:55

For European travel Easyjet, Whizz, BA and Ryanair don't allow cabin travel for pets.

I know that Turkish, KLM, Edelweiss, Lufthansa, Vueling, Aegean, SAS, TAP, Air France, Iberia, LOT, Finnair do allow the 8kg with carrier "under the seat" transportation of pets.

toastofthetown · 05/01/2025 09:00

Travelling with pet animals in the cabin is difficult/impossible for flights into or out of the UK, but all carriers must permit assistance dogs in the cabin. It’s not likely you’d end up on a flight with an assistance dog, but they do have the right to be there and I assume the legitimate purpose of the assistance dog wouldn’t help with your allergy.

@Petallergies
Ryanair flights to Morocco might be an option?

This uk gov list may help:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/pet-travel-approved-air-sea-rail-and-charter-routes-for-the-movement-of-pets/approved-air-routes-for-pet-travel

KLM, Lufthansa and Air France allow small pets in the cabin. Easyjet allow assistance dogs only. Ryanair only allow assistance dogs, but not on Morocco flights. Airlines such as Qatar allow falcons in the cabin. It’s different for each. They must be booked on though.

NotMyDayJob · 05/01/2025 09:03

Could you take the ferry? We travel regularly via the Amsterdam ferry from North Shields and there are pets on board but there’s a special area for them, ie they don’t just run around the ship. I can’t speak to getting a hypoallergenic cabin (for want of a better description) but DFDS are very helpful

Thankyou I will have a look at the suggestions. I seem to get immune to antihistamines after a while and had to keep changing and now none are very effective 😞
