Camera recommendations

Hey, I love taking photos (just take photos on iPhone).
Looking for a camera, mainly to take pictures of the kids. Occasionally sunset, and love the stars/moon, and when lucky enough the northern lights.
I have no idea what I am looking for, keep getting overwhelmed by the amounts of information.
I have a small budget and don’t mind second hand. Would love suggestions on a good camera or what to look for. I would really like one that connects straight to phone so I don’t need to use work computer.

My camera is one of my favourite things and gives me a great deal of pleasure, so I hope you find something.
If you are lucky enough to have a camera/photographic shop near to you the guys in there will probably be helpful, similarly a local camera club may help and be a source of second-hand kit. The tech department in John Lewis used be good, but I don't think they sell cameras or have expert staff these days.
Don't let anyone confuse you with chat about mega-pixels and fancy 'glass' [lens bores] but have a demonstration and try stuff out for yourself.
Avoid any little camera with huge built-in zoom, you'll suffer from blurry camera-shake.
