What do you tweens listen to other than T Swift and Imagine Dragons??

What do your 9-12 year olds like to listen to and sing at the moment? Am definitely not looking for the kookiest suggestions, instead the most popular/crowd pleasing artists and songs. Am a singing teacher and my inspiration for this age group is absolutely just barren at the moment. Doesn’t help that my own 9 year old only seems to listen to Eminem and Imagine Dragons (and Ed Sheeran).

Ditto teens, they all just want to sing Billie Eilish and Gracie Abrams which is fine but both get old pretty quickly! Any suggestions? Repertoire needs a freshen up.

Dodie, Sammy rae and the friends. All super lovely songs.

mdinbc · 03/01/2025 21:42

Isn't it amazing that such old music is still going strong. The music industry is so changed that bands don't develop in the natural way they did back then. Today's new music seems so processed to me. Not all of it, but a lot of it.

My 10 yr old grandson is listening to country music.

FoFanta · 03/01/2025 21:46

My 12 year old likes Beabadoobie and various K-Pop girl bands (Twice and New Jeans I think?) at the moment. Funnily enough both kids (12 & 15) want CD's. They do listen to Spotify but they like to have the actual physical CD and DVD of the things they really love.

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 03/01/2025 21:47

Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter are firm favourites here (DD is 11). Some language is a bit 🤨 but she enjoys it. I’m trying to her into my 90s indie favourites but the only music we both like from my back catalogue is Bon Jovi!

dontforgetme · 03/01/2025 21:49

DD is ten and is obsessed with Noah Kahan.

soundsys · 03/01/2025 21:54

My 10-year-old mostly listens to that bloody sea shanty one 😭 And Taylor Swift and Imagine Dragons as you say, other favourites include Katy Perry, songs from Percy Jackson the Musical (which are actually quite good!) and the one Natasha Bedingfiwld song (Unwritten). Oh and that green, green grass song

Whatever is trending on instagram and tiktok

Benson Boone springs to mind

Tween DD was asked for some recommendations of what she'd like to sing by her singing teacher. Amongst the TS she asked for Abba, Pink, Dolly Parton (loves Jolene), Carrie Underwood and then all things Disney (especially Encanto, Descendants and Zombies). Also some of the more recent musical to film stuff like Hamilton, Wicked and Matilda.

AllTheAll · 03/01/2025 22:00

The trending stuff is Charli XCX and Chappell Roan. Sabrina/Billie/Taylor are definitely the mainstream stayers

ghostbusters · 03/01/2025 22:00

Bon Jovi - Living' on a prayer.
Anything by Taylor Swift because one of his bestie is a Swiftie.
Or anything that features on Fortnite. It was Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas over the festive period.

icebearforpresident · 03/01/2025 22:09

Olivia Rodrigo is my 11 year olds favourite - if you are a singing teacher she has a great range.

Foo Fighters are another of her favourites but that’s firmly my influence 😆

Ilovegermany · 03/01/2025 22:11

9 year old is enjoying Bruno Mars APT, but was singing we will rock you in the car yesterday. And we had a chorus of Wannabe, Spice Girls the other day.

BlanketLanyard · 03/01/2025 22:13

My two tweens love 70s and 80s music, especially ELO, Tears For Fears and Depeche Mode.

bookworm14 · 03/01/2025 22:14

My nine year old is really into K-Pop - her favourites are Stray Kids, Blackpink and Aespa. She also likes Olivia Rodrigo and Maisie Peters.

cheesychipsontheoche · 03/01/2025 22:14

Olivia Rodrigo, Dean Lewis, The Lottery Winners, Alan Walker, The Script.

Gymmum82 · 03/01/2025 22:14

CharlieXCX, Chappell roan, Tay Tay, Sia, Dua lipa, Meghan trainer are all popular with my 10yo

Martymcfly24 · 03/01/2025 22:21

My class of 11 year olds all picked a song to create a class playlist.
It was mainly (clean versions) of the songs on the radio and Tok Tok so
Sabrina Carpenter
Olivia Rodrigo
Cian Ducrot
Noah Kahan
Chapell Rohan
Megan Trainor
Pink
Billie Eilish
Old songs from New movies like Bye Bye Bye from Deadpool and Freed from Desire
And some song from a YouTuber I can't remember!

My own 9 year old is a big musicals fan so Wicked Soundtrack is on repeat at the moment.

Hi OP, also DD listens to a lot of Inhaler, but that might more be for older teens.
