I haven't stayed there but family have when visiting me .
They all like it. It is unfortunately looking a little worn in places but that doesn't detract from the beauty of it.

100s of places to eat near by , you are 1 min ( literally) walk from China Town.

What kind of places/ food do you like ?

We like anything really but fancy a nice Indian
Any recommendations?
We went to dishoom in Edinburgh but weren't a fan of...prefer more traditional than chains.

You are only a short distance form manchesters famous curry mile , some are cafe takeaway type, others are proper restaurants. It's a long while since I've been there so I can't recall all the names but you will be spoilt for choice .
A lot of them are family or small business owed so each one is very different. And while none could be classed as posh or fancy the food is usually great.
To get there probably about £5 in a cab or a 2 min walk to picadilly Gardens and hop on a bus .
42, 43 , 142 ,143 , all of which run really frequently. Single ticket £2 , day saver £5 ( can be used as many times as you want on any bus in Manchester)

Just be aware that you are going right through Manchester University campus so it can be busy .

indian tiffin room is a short walk away and worth considering

its a classy hotel. Probably slightly run down in places but traditionally the best hotel in town (there are def swankier alternatives these days but that doesn’t mean that the Midland isn’t nice.

I stayed there years ago and the mattress was knackered!
Have a look at Akbars on Liverpool Road, that's not far to walk.

East Z East Is good

dont bother with the curry mile its crap these days.

A few years ago we booked last minute and ended up in the Britannia hotel on Portland street so anything is better ha ha
It felt really unsafe in there and we slept with a chair against the door as someone kept trying the handle .

I haven't stayed there but I had afternoon tea there a while ago and the lobby smells amazing! Plenty of places to eat nearby. I would steer clear of the curry mile personally. The food is good but the area is rough!

We booked there a few years ago on a deal thingy and in the queue for reception I was frantically checking the booking thinking I'd missed a 0 on the price! It is very beautiful and we had a lovely stay.

I've stayed there a few years ago and it was nice, a bit tired but that didn't take anything away from the stay. Nice cocktails! It's not my preferred choice now though, I normally stay at the Kimpton.

I’ve stayed at the Midland a couple of times on deals, which made it about £140 a night for b&b. The spa area is small but nice. You have to book a time slot when you check in - annoying that you can’t book it before you arrive.

Breakfast is very good.

There’s a nice Indian street food restaurant not too far away. I can’t remember its name, but somebody might know it. Bundobust brewery is very close, but the one I’m thinking of is on a little modern build place, not far around the corner from the Briton’s Protection pub.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2025 17:41

I think it might have been the Indian Tiffin Room.
