Does anyone else still feel in the midst of Christmas and going with it…

Granted I don’t go back work until

next week and appreciate that’s not the same for everyone but is anyone else still hanging out in there Christmas PJ’s, having a daily cheese board and luxurious mid day bubble bath and saying fuck it to a glass of fizz at 4pm?

I can’t be the only one?

I'm clinging on to some bits but was back to work today so that kind of takes the shine off the "twelve days of Christmas". I'm always back to work before January 6th or whenever it officially ends!

But I was working from home today and did have a bubble bath on my lunch break and then ate Christmas pudding this evening. So it's not all over! 🤣

Seaworthy · 02/01/2025 22:12

I was until today (back to work) Sad

Behindthethymes · 02/01/2025 22:12

Christmas in my house goes from
full frenzy to hibernating sloth mode, followed by a slow return to normality. I’m currently at the stage where I’m considering doing the odd load of laundry again and craving food that isn’t festive, reading at least three books at a time, and taking up hobbies that I’ll discover I don’t have time for next week.

PontiacFirebird · 02/01/2025 22:13

Yep- got tons of cheese left and still not eaten the Xmas pudding! The tree will come down on Monday for Kings days. Still have presents to open for the 6th too. I love the period after Xmas day, it’s when I actually relax.

LookingForwardToSunshine · 02/01/2025 22:18

Yes, on our way to visit my husband's family now.

Pleaseletmegohome · 02/01/2025 22:19

Back to work tomorrow and all weekend, else I would still be with you.

Tree was down today, all traces of Christmas removed.

Last of the Baileys down the sink, ditto the half bottle of fizz left in the fridge.

All opened chocolates / biscuits have been binned and those still unopened (of which there were far more) have been donated to the food bank. Cheese has been put in the freezer.

I love the freshness of January (but usually do all the above on 12th Night) so it feels lovely (even though these days between Christmas / New Year and the return to work are the only aspects of Christmas I enjoy. Detest the build up!).

No, I'm glad it's over, as Im a widow with two adult kids and one almost adult grandchild.i live by myself and only get to spend Christmas Day with them, then I'm on my own again. Seeing all the adverts with huge families around the table having loads of fun just makes me sad.

I’m sorry to hear that. Flowers

Roryno · 02/01/2025 22:33

I’m not a big fan of Christmas in general but post Xmas is the best bit. All the stress is over, it’s just twinkling lights, lovely food and lazy times. I’ve worked most of Xmas anyway. I did take a few outdoor decorations down today, mainly because it was sunny. I usually take it down gradually over the next few days. I really don’t understand why people want to get “back to normal” of grey, gloomy January and winter. And i especially don’t understand people that can’t think of anything more fun to do on Boxing Day than cleaning!!

ssd · 02/01/2025 22:36

No i work in retail but good on you op

PontiacFirebird · 02/01/2025 22:37

I’ve had a shite December and wasn’t feeling the build up at all. I also really like January and am easing into normality gradually. I can’t get my head around people who pull it all down Boxing Day when that’s the point where the pressure is off.

@tillytoodles1
so sad to read this OP x

Panickingnowhelp · 02/01/2025 22:41

I wish I was as it really is the most wonderful time of the year for me but as I'm back at work it's drifted away from me.
I took down the inside and outside decs today and one of the trees.
Have left the main tree up and was eating mince pies today, that tree will go down on Sunday and then I'll be really down.

NCNP · 02/01/2025 22:45

No. My decorations start coming down on the 26th, I am done by the 27th at the latest, the children are at their father's for a few days from xmas day afternoon so I use the time they aren't here to declutter and deep clean, and I like it all tidy for the start of the New Year. I have had the decorations up for over a month and have had enough. I feel that once the big man has been on Xmas Eve, and the gifts have been opened on Xmas Day, that's Xmas done.

Twinklybeam · 02/01/2025 22:46

I took down the decorations today, but life won’t go back to normal til next week when the kids go back to uni and I start work again.

daffodilandtulip · 02/01/2025 22:46

I had trifle for breakfast.

I left a heart react but would have rather left a care one.

I don't think those adverts are realistic. Most people I know don't have big families round the table - the majority are small families and rushing around. I get it though.

Out of interest, what makes you like January so much? I would like to like it more.

scrivette · 02/01/2025 22:51

Always Christmas in my house until the children go back to school - which coincides with 12th night this year. I do have to work tomorrow - but will still be eating leftover cheeses and chocolates - just won't be able to start on the Baileys or Bucks Fizz so early!

Oh, it’s the peace and quiet, the evenings gradually getting lighter, nothing I need to spend money on, reading any new books I got for Xmas, cold clear days, quieter roads. Loads of things! I see January as a fresh start and a time of reflection and self care.

Pleaseletmegohome · 02/01/2025 22:54

That’s exactly how I feel about January @PontiacFirebird

And my bulbs are beginning to pop up!

IkeaMeatballGravy · 02/01/2025 22:57

I'm still on mat leave and DH has taken some time off so we are still in a happy Christmas bubble. I have kept a couple of presents back for the DCs to have on the 12th night which they don't know about yet.

I've noticed lots of trees down already and I feel sad that next Christmas will probably be one solitary day off again for me next year.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 02/01/2025 22:58

@PontiacFirebird that’s how we feel about January too.

dimples76 · 02/01/2025 22:59

School and returning to my work are not until Tuesday. We still have all the decs up. Today we went to our local NT place and enjoyed decs and fairy trail there. The festive period ends for me on Saturday when we are going to local open air museum which has 12th night theme and a panto. Then I will be taking decs down on Sunday and it's back to reality. We have started eating more healthily again...however, it is DN's 7th birthday tomorrow since it has not lasted long

HelenInHeels · 02/01/2025 23:00

We always had a big family meal on New Year's Day the same as Christmas Day. It was Christmas Day all over again without the presents.

Treemules · 02/01/2025 23:00

Yes me. Had cheese board for dinner, having lots of chilled days with the kids, lie ins, pjs, nice walks. Planning on similar day tomorrow, don’t plan on getting anyone dressed till lunchtime, afternoon walk. Christmas tree still up!
