Can Anyone Recommend a Restaurant in Covent Garden

My DSis and I are taking my DM85 to see the Lion King in March for her birthday. We thought we would have an early dinner before we go home (we are seeing a matinee performance). Last year we did something similar and ate in the Delaunay which I really wasn't keen on.

DM uses a walker as she's a bit wobbly on her feet so wondered if anyone had any ideas where we could take her. We have also eaten in the Palm Court Brasserie which is nice but a bit cramped for DM to get around.

The Petersham? It’s modern European and in a nice setting. Dishoom and Din Tai Fung are also great, but maybe not the cuisine your DM would choose given where you’ve been before.

Balthazar is quite nice .

DM loves Indian food but I don't think you can book at Dishoom and she certainly wouldn't be able to stand in a queue for more than a few minutes. I will have a look at the Petersham, thank you.

Roka near the Delaunay is a good Japanese. Or for more mainstream food there is a branch of The Ivy in Covent Garden.

Clos Maggiore is lovely, especially if you can get a table in the covered courtyard

DM is quite adventurous with food but doesn't like Japanese, Chinese or Thai food which is annoying as DSis and I love it. I hadn't thought of the Ivy, another one to investigate, thank you.

I’d also recommend cafe Murano which is c. 2 mins from the Lyceum and v accessible, classy, and I would think an 85 year old lady would enjoy.

Posh but not mad prices - may have a set menu at that time also.

THE Ivy is in Covent Garden, so worth a visit if it’s your kind of place.

@Icequeen01 you can definitely book in Dishoom CG.

Love that restaurant but may be a lil spicy for an 85yo. There is also a 'hidden' Indian restaurant on the strand although I've never been and I do believe it's upstairs somewhere (not sure how accessible) as I finished typing this I Googled and it shows it closed last year

BobbyBiscuits · 01/01/2025 20:51

If you're meat fans then Hawksmoor at Seven Dials is great. Really comfortable seating with plenty of space, and they have a lift. Their steaks and burgers are lovely. It's quite a traditional menu in some ways. A bit pricey as steaks should be, but sharing things it can be reasonable. The service and quality is fantastic.

Sunholidays · 01/01/2025 20:51

Isn’t Rules on a first floor? And quite narrow stairs? I’ve only been once but that’s how I remember it.

Oh can you? I read a review about someone queuing for an hour so assumed this meant you can't book. Great another one to check out but I do take your point about it possibly being a bit too spicy for her. We've got to get her home on the train 🤣

Another vote for Cafe Murano - lovely Northern Italian food!

Katrinawaves · 01/01/2025 21:04

I believe you can only book for lunch at Dishoom or if you have a table of more than 6 for dinner.

How about Christophers? The quality of food there is consistently good and definitely better than Delauney

crumpet · 01/01/2025 21:07

The restaurant at 1 Aldwych? Not too far from the Lyceum

Icequeen01 · 01/01/2025 21:16

Wow, you lot are amazing. So many places to check out. DSis and I will be looking at all your suggestions. Thank you 😊

NotEnoughTime · 01/01/2025 21:20

Browns in Covent Garden might suit?

Estelle74uk · 01/01/2025 21:21

How about the ivy grill. Been there so many times
