Can you ski and / or sail? (Not at all inspired by another thread)

Just that really.

I learnt to sail when I was young. On dinghies. I've done a bit since and am a member of a sailing club. I'm ok at it - although I prefer light winds.

I can ski a bit - had a few skiiing holidays, but haven't done it with DS as it's expensive during school holidays. Different now as he's not at school anymore so we are going soon.

I like sailing - it's relaxing. I'm not really into racing - but that's what sailing clubs like to do. I just like being on the water.

Can you ski and / or sail?

I tried skiing once but didn't enjoy it, I've never sailed and don't like horses.

I can ski and ride very well and sail a bit. I learned to sail as a kid, but wouldn't want to be put in charge of a boat now.

RaraRachael · 01/01/2025 15:49

Never skied nor sailed. No interest in either as I'm not keen on anything that may involve getting cold, wet or uncomfortable

MrsSethGecko · 01/01/2025 16:19

I can ride, I haven't for about ten years but as a child and teen I rode a lot.

FelixtheAardvark · 01/01/2025 16:41

No to skiing.
Not qualified as a watchkeeper, but I have crewed a yacht for a while.

notprincehamlet · 01/01/2025 16:48

No and no. Neither the need nor the opportunity's ever really arisen.

Can ski and go for 1-2 weeks a year. DD skis and DS boards. Am north of 50 now so not sure how much longer I’ll do it. Let’s see. Can’t sail myself but DC and DH can so I know a bit about it, mainly from DD’s racing and I crew the safety boat sometimes. Learned to ride a horse as a child but not v talented at it and haven’t done it for decades.

I'm a decent sailor (yachts and dinghys), or rather I was. Did a lot of dinghy racing and also heaps of yachting, including working as crew during uni holidays. I've sailed double handed across the north sea, the med and the channel.

I'm a good skier, learnt with school and more on holidays in my twenties /thirties

Can horse ride too, and love it.

Sadly though, I have a condition that now means I can't do any of those things. I think people who know me now would be shocked to learn I used to ski happily down black runs, and have helmed yachts in tricky weather (waves big enough that a 70footer really went up and down them)

I feel like a different person now and it hurts. I do still manage a tiny bit of some activities but they need to be things where I can stop as soon as my muscles get weak (the more I use a muscle the weaker it gets).

Both but not terribly well. Learnt to ski on a dry slope at primary. Did a few skiiing bits since mainly Glenshee as local. Did an RYA course to learn to sail in Australia in a dinghy done a few bits since. Mainly dinghies.

Haven't see the other thread-is it a posh/not posh thing? I'm posh. I can ski and sail. Also I can ride.

KittenPause · 01/01/2025 19:41

Yes I can do both but haven't done either for a while

NoNoNona · 01/01/2025 20:15

Yes to both and I can row as well!

Foison · 01/01/2025 22:36

I ski, I can ride (although it's been a while) but sailing is not for me - I've just never had time or inclination to learn properly & didn't enjoy the few lessons I have taken. I do love a jet ski. No to scuba diving - done a few "taster" dives with a guide but don't want to spend a week doing PADI so content with snorkelling!

Reading that back it seems I'm more of an instant gratification type who can't be bothered to persist with anything remotely classroom based!

Vetoncall · 01/01/2025 22:56

I can ski, we go on a ski holiday every year. I lived in Canada for a while and skiied most weekends throughout the season. I learned to sail as a child but haven't done it for years. I rode competitively throughout childhood/teens, and I was on the rowing team at school, but haven't done much of either since I went away to uni.

Bixaweet · 01/01/2025 23:29

No interest in skiing.

Did a level 1 sailing course for fun a few years ago - liked it apart from being taught by young posh kids!

Vegan so no horse-riding.
