Probably a stupid question . But would some (not all ) driving instructors send a learner for a test before they are ready?

Some would. You normally book the test in advance so you in a way you are guessing progress. Some people do well under pressure and ace a test. Some really well prepared people fall to pieces. If you have a test booked and are unsure then I’d consider it a dry run. You will learn a lot from doing the test. Learning to drive is a process and passing your test is a part of that process. It’s ok to need a couple of goes. Learning to drive carries on after you pass, I think it was a couple of years after I passed that I started thinking of myself as a good/ confident driver. Whereas begore I’d of said that I wasn’t a “natural driver.”
