I've found my people
Love st felicien, also blacksticks blue
Discovery this Christmas was an impulse purchase Tesco finest hickory smoked vintage cheddar, it's for people who like it when you feel the tang of a cheese in the joints of your jaw! Delicious.
Also got a lovely Lancashire cheese with smoked chillies from a local market, it was shaped like a cartoon bomb

Please don't say you discard the rind.

I won't/don't but sometimes I feel the rind detracts from the actual cheese and prefer to have it not interfere

We're going to bring a cheese night tonight as a social at a friend's- i asked for permission to go off track. Have made mini cheesecakes and cheesecake brownies lol

(And will take some actual cheese)

These cheeses all sound delicious though!

toe joints... cheese????

what's the link?

I usually low carb & cheese is important to me!! But my joints do hurt, never noticed a link??

The link is inflammatory foods ; the top five are gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol and coffee. All the good stuff basically.
My hands were throbbing too and couldn’t grasp a pen usefully or a needle, so a slow week. I’m also egg intolerant which is the biggest spanner to quick meals!

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 30/12/2024 16:18

And brassicas are generally not inflammatory, never heard of cauliflower being a thing.

This thread is my favourite thing all christmas, but I don't think that brie rind detracts from the actual cheese. As rinds go, it is among the most gentle and unobtrusive, just a slight and welcome change of texture.

Cauliflower is def a thing. Bought one today. As for its association with gout, this is revelatory for me, the biggest shock since my discovery that onions are poisonous to dogs.

Yes, the cauliflower thing has been debunked and doesn't contribute to an excess of uric acid.

These threads always reveal a divide between the people who think good cheese is wrapped in wax with fruit or herbs in it, and the people who think good cheese smells like a sheep's arse.

Absolutely. Also eating cheese straight from the fridge is horrid. Cheese should be allowed to warm up a bit to appreciate the flavour. Sadly, restaurants haven't been allowed to do this for decades, so ambient cheese trolleys are no longer a (wonderful) thing.

I do like an unpasteurised cheese. TBF I do like any cheese, except Gouda and Edam. Now I want some cheese.

You need to try a proper aged Gouda from a Dutch cheese shop. It'll be dark orange in colour, with salt crystals, a rich nutty flavour and you'll need a parer to slice it. I've broken more than one cheap knife. It's amazing over pasta!

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 30/12/2024 19:35

Cheddar with ginger and cheddar with cranberries was a delicious addition to ours.

The Snowdonia cheeses are amazing, and come in cute little truckles. Plus after Christmas their hampers are often reduced and full of goodies! The Black Bomber and Green Thunder cheeses are particular favourites. In fact, I think I hear them calling to me from the fridge even as I type 😂

Yes!!! I had some black bomber today and polished off the vintage Red Leicester one recently. Amazing!

DH went out Xmas Eve and came back looking VERY furtive and pleased with himself . Christmas Day , he gave me a whole kilo of truffled Baron Bigod ( he visits the farm regularly for work and they put him one aside ).

I love that man Grin

Tunnocksmallow · 30/12/2024 19:42

I love Baron Bigold. A lovely soft cheese, like a brie/Camembert, but with slightly stronger flavour. And they also do it with Truffles.

also adore the Norwegian Gjetost. A hard cheese with a caramel flavour.
