It's been a tough year here, but I have made lots of positive changes in my life and want to keep the momentum going.

So I would love to ask what your highlights of the year have been? A new habit, fab holiday, anything big or absolutely tiny, I would love to hear for inspiration.

Thanks in advance!

Went on an expedition trip to see polar bears in the high arctic. Truly spectacular.

Applied for a TA job on a whim end at the end of January, I got the job. I’d been considering teaching but wasn’t sure, put it off for years. So glad I did it, I absolutely love it, start training in September. Went on our first family holiday abroad for a few years, which was fantastic too. Shifting to a major health focus for 2025 as had a significant health scare.

LeaveALittleNote · 29/12/2024 18:08

Faced my fear of flying and went on a very special holiday. It’s been a really hard year and the holiday was the best thing I did for my mental health (despite a tense flight!).

We moved to the other end of the country this time last year, so it doesn't really count but is the best decision I've ever made!

My DD is autistic & earlier this year, started talking about how she felt like I didn't want to spend time with her enough. This is not true at all, it's just me & her and I LOVE hanging out with her, but she also needs alone time to decompress - so when we're at home & have downtime, I've mostly just left her to decide when she wants to be with me/ chill in her room.

But she struggles with self esteem and I hated that she was having these sorts of thoughts - so this year, I've made a conscious effort to ask her to hang out/ do stuff with me multiple times a day.

Most of the time she says 'not right now' or 'maybe later', but I want her to be 100% sure that I always love being with her!

And I think it's had the desired outcome as yesterday, she read a description of me that she'd just wrote in her diary, which said 'loves spending quality time with me' Smile

Passed numerous work exams despite DH having stage 4 cancer and me slowly losing ability to walk. Had to keep some laser focus there but falling apart mentally now.

Grumpyoldthing · 29/12/2024 18:17

I’m probably most proud of my dd17 achievements . She passed a handful of gcse - enough to get her onto a level 3 course at college , and for the entire term she has had 100% attendance and she’s predicted a B when she finishes ( if she carries on like she has)

year 10 for her especially was horrific and so disruptive for our whole family that I’m over the ducking moon that she’s settling!

my highlight was our family holiday and trip to holy island- thoroughly enjoyed it.

personally I have gone up to four days working week and have maintained that for a whole year, which has allowed me to hire a moths tutor one hour a week to support my son.

im looking forward to the next year .

Added a new horse to the family. My old girl is loving the retired life of riley, but I was desperately missing riding and competing. The new mare is not what I set out to buy, and will need a lot of work to bring out her best, but I fell in love with her lovely nature and she's slotted in brilliantly with the rest of the madhouse.

Flamingo68 · 29/12/2024 18:19

Went to the Eras Tour…twice!

Tuut · 29/12/2024 18:23

Beat cancer, just before Christmas so was a Christmas present.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 29/12/2024 18:25

Bought a dog, wanted one for so very long, he came from the farmer over the road, he was planned for for nearly 2 years! I'm losing weight and regularly leaving the house to walk him, he's beautiful and so much more than I ever hoped! I love him entirely and he's utterly wonderful. He is feral and loopy and energetic and and he makes me feel young and energetic, he gives me reason to smile and get up and live. Even at half six in the morning in the freezing cold and wet! Even though he's a prolific chewer and digger, he's the best thing to happen since my children!

Bluebellyhedge · 29/12/2024 18:27

Went on a two week holiday. Only in the UK but the two weeks made such a difference.

Took my closest friends for cocktails and dinner for my big birthday. Made me realise how incredibly lucky i am to have them.

Put firm boundaries up between me and my family about how i was prepared to accept being treated.

Works been good this year too.

I trebled my salery. 22.5k in January, 44.5k in February, 63.8k in September.

I did this, in part, by not disclosing my salary when applying for the job in Feb, just going to town on my skills. They then promoted me 6 months in.

ExpensiveDecoration · 29/12/2024 18:35

Started doing Parkrun, it had been on my list for years, one of my DCs finally talked me into it and I am hooked.

Joined a choir, that’s been on the list for a long time too.

Volunteered as an elf when Santa goes round the houses locally, absolutely lovely, it makes people so happy.

Crunchymum · 29/12/2024 18:38

Private tuition for my youngest who has SEN.

Just a few hours a week but we're slowly bridging the gap that has opened. We shouldn't need to do this of course but it's been fantastic for DC3.

Sukin · 29/12/2024 18:41

I reconnected with someone very important to me after 30 odd years. Working hard at the relationship now and hoping 2025 is the year that we build enough memories that those 30 lost years no longer loom over us.

cardibach · 29/12/2024 18:42

Started volunteering at my local dogs' home walking the dogs. An absolute joy which does wonders for my mental and physical health as well as the obvious benefits for the poor dogs who have been so let down. Yes, it's upsetting from time to time when you see the state of new dogs and it's bittersweet when ones you've made a bond with get adopted, but overall it's been a massively positive part of my life this year.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/12/2024 18:47

Cabaret at the KitKat Club in the West End. Amazing

oatmy · 29/12/2024 18:51

Changed my role at work and am really enjoying it.

Supported DS through GCSEs and some tricky mental health stuff.

Went to lots of really great music events with DS.

Started a placement for my new career direction.

fivebyfivebuffy · 29/12/2024 18:53

Small thing but I crave water in summer, any kind, I just want to get in it!

Had a stressful day at work and was hot and flustered so thought fuck it, climbed up a hill to here and spent a lovely hour in the water with just me and the sheep!
I'll be doing it again this year

What is the best thing you have done this year?
susiedaisy1912 · 29/12/2024 18:55

Started weight loss injections and so far lost 4 stones, I feel so much better for it, I actually feel hopeful for the future for the first time in years.

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2024 18:55

Landed a fantastic permanent new job just as I turned 60. I'm loving it.
