Does this need a Dr/ Pharmacy appt?

Dd (17) managed to slam the car door on her hand Christmas Day morning.
I wasn't present & she didn't tell me afterwards. She wears thick gloves constantly (sensory thing, she is Autistic) so I hadn't seen it till today. She says it hurts 'a bit' (but she has an unusual pain tolerance). It looks greener irl than in the pics. She can move her fingers ok ('sore') but it feels quite 'lumpy' under the grazed spot which couldjust be bruising.
Would you try to get an appt to be seen anywhere? We've not had fractures before so I'm not sure what they'd do?
I'm getting her to rest it (sling?) & have given her some painkillers.

I would
go to a and e or minor injuries for X-ray tbh

In the photos it has a full name attached

I would ask MN to delete or edit the photos if there is any concerns around safety / Privacy

When I slammed the car door on my own finger, I was directed to A&E by 111.

Hurt like an absolute bitch - I cried - and my nail eventually came off, but was just badly bruised. The doctor that saw me said I was the third car door incident she'd seen that day, the one before me was broken.

Minor injuries is better than A&E for waiting times. If she's not screaming in pain. The one near me usually has hardly anyone waiting. They x-ray it and if it needs further treatment they then send you to the hospital.

THANK YOU @MNHQ - that was super speedy.

A&E or a minor injuries with xray facility. I slammed my finger on a car door and broke it. It needed antibiotics because of the deep wound and risk of bone infection.

MissBattleaxe · 29/12/2024 15:54

Definitely Minor Injuries. Pharmacies and GPs don't have x-ray equipment. An untreated broken bone can get complicated in future.

Oneearringlost · 29/12/2024 15:57

Most definitely A&E or minor injuries. It needs X-raying, might need to be reset if fractured. Hands are v precious things!

I'm calling 111 (the only route to minor injuries my area). Thank you all.

Just to update: 111 took 1hr15min on hold but when I finally spoke to someone they were very helpful. Told me Minor Injuries would call back this evening. 20mins later they called & we had an appt 30 mins after that. 1hr 30mins later we left, after an Xray which was all clear so just soft tissue damage. Really good.
