1000 albums in a year - I want your suggestions!

I'm challenging myself to listen to 1000 new-to-me albums in 2025. I will listen to anything, of any genre (if it's available on Spotify or Apple Music) with the exception of death metal or Bradley Walsh's latest Christmas album😆

I love music but have got stuck in a bit of a rut over the last few years so would like to expand my horizons. What album would you like to recommend to a total stranger?

Why not add all Grammy award winning albums to your list?

That way ensures Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour is on there, best album of all time in my biased opinion!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 29/12/2024 09:53

Eminem - the death of slim shady
Lauryn Hill - the miseducation of Lauryn
The King Blues - punk and poetry

At around three a day you're not going to have time to take in any of the music.

I don't think that's the case but, if it is, the only person potentially missing out is me. I don't need to sit silently and deeply immerse myself in everything I listen to (although I will wear decent headphones whenever possible!) - the point of the exercise is to find new-to-me music that I might want to listen to again or artists I want to explore in more depth. Something that sparks my interest. I'm not writing a review for Rolling Stone.

Some really great suggestions here, thanks all! If anyone has any more suggestions for 'world music' (probably not the right phrase but ykwim) or even (eeek) jazz that would be great as I am so far very indie/folk/rock heavy.

Will you update the thread periodically with what you listen to and whether you liked it or not?

Sure, why not?

Bill Evans - Live at the Village Vanguard

Would you head over the crossover to classical? Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich?

Promises by Floating Point(s) is probably crossover too. Great stuff.

How will you manage to listen to 3 albums a day???

I listen to more than that most days and I don’t really watch the telly , I listen to Music so it’s not a stretch to do it and I put on an album getting ready for work because it puts me in such a positive mood for the day

meikyo · 29/12/2024 10:28

DH is a fan of Steve Reich and tbh the music hasn't ever done anything for me, but I should probably give it another go! Thanks for the reminder.

I love The Specials and also have most of Terry Hall's solo catalogue. His death was a huge loss.
