1000 albums in a year - I want your suggestions!

I'm challenging myself to listen to 1000 new-to-me albums in 2025. I will listen to anything, of any genre (if it's available on Spotify or Apple Music) with the exception of death metal or Bradley Walsh's latest Christmas album😆

I love music but have got stuck in a bit of a rut over the last few years so would like to expand my horizons. What album would you like to recommend to a total stranger?

Great idea OP!
The Daisy Age (jazzy hip hop) is fun.

That’s nearly 3 albums A DAY! 19/20 a week. Where will you find the time and will you listen to all of them if you don’t like them?

FearMe · 28/12/2024 20:47

I want to know this too! You didn't actually answer the question.

Edited

Well, i wfh a lot and listen to quite a bit of music during the day, and when I go into the office my commute, door-to-door, is long enough for an average-length album each way. Also plenty of time to catch up in the evenings or at weekends, whilst driving etc.

It's a commitment but not an unmanageable one, I reckon!

Maybe also try Liz Phair, White Chocolate Space egg then!

Ohhhh, we have VERY similar taste, this is a favourite of mine (although I slightly prefer Exile in Guyville).

I know Scary Monsters pretty well but will give the Buzzcocks album a go as I only really know Love Bites.

Ooh you're in for a treat! If you already know Scary Monsters can I suggest Hatful of Hollows by The Smiths or These Foolish Things by Bryan Ferry - both glorious in very different ways 😄

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 28/12/2024 20:56

I don’t think any one has mentioned Amy Winehouse -Back to Black. Recently purchased this on vinyl and it is stunning.

SatisfiedMind · 28/12/2024 20:56

Nameless - by Dominique Fils-Aime (her first three albums, of which this is the first in the trilogy, lead into the next. They are wonderfully recorded and she has an incredible voice. Her version of Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ is amazing

I intend to listen to each all the way through, but since the idea is to find new music I enjoy, if I really, really can't stand something I may bail! Hence my caveat that I won't bother with very heavy 'death' metal because I know there's no way I want to listen to that. But everything else is up for grabs because it's about expanding my musical horizons.

@BoltonSK thanks, have added Keaton Henson as I know all the others well.

@Awaywiththefairies078 thank you- reggae isn't a genre I have previously got on with but I'll definitely give Chronixx a go as it's a name that's new to me!
