Gas and electric?!

My gas and electric payments have gone out and it’s the most I’ve ever paid.

Gas - £100.66
Electric - £84

It’s December, granted. But I must say I’m shocked, so expensive!

This is for a two bed and one bathroom mid terraced house…

Is it an estimated bill or does it correlate with your usage?

we were away for a bit of December so no good using ours as a comparison but going back to November we were 184 for a 4 bed, 3 level end terrace

HPandthelastwish · 28/12/2024 18:16

Is it an actual bill? Is it because the standing charges have gone up or linked to your usage?

2 bed flat, pretty much everything is electric apart from boiler
£20 gas a month - normally no use in the summer so build up credit as just charged for standing charge.
£80 electric a month -

It's not great but not terrible, especially for this time of year when you need to have the lights on pretty much 24/7

We're in a 4 bed, two bath mid terrace & our gas this month is £117.40, Electric £53.81. We have had the heating on pretty much non stop since the start of December and I've been enjoying baths every couple of days along with two of us showering daily so I expected it to be high.

Ours is £225 every month so that seems good to me.

I really don’t know, but I do need to give an updated meter reading. I’m worried about doing it in case we’re charged more! But obviously, it needs to be done!

If you've not submitted a meter reading in a while it does sound like an estate. Check the actual number on your meters versus the number on your bill.

Iliketulips · 01/01/2025 12:37

If you're not submitting regular readings, then bill won't be accurate. Take readings and see how they compare to those on the bill - if they're less, then you can get an adjustment by submitting readings. If more, then obviously you owe them more.

Funnily enough though, our gas was £89 and electricity £55 and the monthly readings I've submitted are the highest over the last two months - I didn't think it had been that cold but obviously we've had heating and electric fire on more than I thought.

Martin Lewis is advising to do this asap as prices are going up so you want what you have used so far to be on the old price.
