I fixed snoring!

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/12/2024 12:08

After many years of being a freight train snorer and trying all the strips and sprays I seem to have fixed it accidentally with a new pack of pillows.

Neck had been killing me so while doing the food shop I impulse bought a new pack of pillows

www.argos.co.uk/product/2729884?clickSR=slp:term:pillows:18:28:1

Been using them a couple of weeks now and DH reports I am eerily silent during the night now, no snoring, don't roll round all night like a washing machine spin cycle.

Neck still hurts though so need to find an alternative solution for that. Thinking I might actually have to do exercise instead of just thinking about it.

My DH has 4 pillows and as long as he remains propped up on them he doesn't snore. Everytime we go on holiday he is back to snoring like a freight train on the standard issue 2 pillows.

He finds it rather uncomfortable, but it is the only consistent cure we have found in 25 years.

Lovemycat2023 · 29/12/2024 19:56

I’ve found it the other way round - when my OH has high pillows his chin is tucked in and the snoring is worse

lindyloo57 · 29/12/2024 22:26

Both my adult Children snore so badly that both their partners had to sleep in separate beds to get any sleep, i will recommend they try the pillows.

Hmm, I might try these.

Although I suspect the only way they're going to fix my husband's snoring is if I hold them over his face for long enough [only joking] [unless it's 3am and he's honking away like a tractor, in which case I might not feel like joking]

Echobelly · 30/12/2024 18:04

Interesting - DH and I have given up on sharing bed because of his snoring, but I have noticed on holiday on a different bed/pillows he doesn't snore, or snores much less. I know there are anti-snore pillows as well and we have been considering those.

blueshoes · 30/12/2024 19:10

I am happy to report that the pillows work.

There was no snoring and only one brief incident of sleep apnea with the pillows.

Allnewtometoo · 30/12/2024 20:56

@blueshoes really? How do you record the sleep apnoea incidents? I'm wondering if I have it.

My dh is the one with sleep apnea. My very unscientific method is how many times a night I am woken up by his snorting (when he comes out of the non-breathing phase).

A year or so back I bought a pack of 2 pillows from a small, new local shop - they were labelled either Holiday Inn, Premier Inn or possibly Habitat and cost about £5 the pair. Best Pillows Ever! They only had two packs and I wish I'd bought them both, because within a fortnight the shop was gone. I suspect they were selling stolen goods. 😆

NormalUntilNot · 30/12/2024 21:46

I am a chronic snorer, sitting, laying down, laying on my sides. The only time I don't snore is when I am laying on my front. A pillow is not going to swing it for me, sadly.

olympicsrock · 31/12/2024 23:14

Yes to MJ stopping snoring. I stopped snoring before losing significant weight and know of others who found the same.
DH and I are sharing a room again after 2 years apart

A mouth guard worked for us.

A mouth guard plus nasal dilators that fit inside the nose worked for me.
The mouth guard took a bit of getting used to but I don't notice it now.

OP, I have just bought the pillows x 2.

At £13, what could go wrong?

Same! I'm the guilty culprit and rely as OP says on strips & sprays, so here's hoping!

Good luck with it. The pillow still seems to be working for me and dh😁

InfoSecInTheCity · 18/01/2025 18:13

Still working for me too @blueshoes I kept thinking that it would Sod's Law that as soon as I posted telling people that the pillows worked, I'd start snoring again but so far so good and lots more sleep for DH.

Hang on why would you take a weight loss drug for snoring ? Confused

A lot of people who snore have fleshy necks. Any weight loss in this area will help to minimise snoring, plus the active ingredient in Mounjaro has been found to reduce sleep apnoea by two thirds. It really does seem to be a miracle drug!

angela1952 · 18/01/2025 20:34

My DH is also snoring less on firm pillows, just one as opposed to two softer ones. It’s miraculous!

HellieWelly · 18/01/2025 22:17

My husband accidentally cured his snoring recently with a gum guard which his dentist had recommended to stop him grinding his teeth in his sleep. Have to say neither of us had noticed the teeth grinding, but the dentist said he could tell from the state of his teeth. So, bonus is that the snoring, which was so loud it would wake me up, has stopped. They are not cheap: husband paid around £300 for a custom made one, but worth every penny. Apparently I snore too - I’m going to try those pillows!

BeringBlue · 18/01/2025 23:02

A CPAP machine works for me! I have obstructive sleep apnoea. No pillows, successful weight loss, nasal surgery, sprays, tape, gadgets or gizmos (the mouth guard was just too uncomfortable to sleep with) ever worked.

NoCarbsForMe · 19/01/2025 09:54

TinasLostHerSparkle · 27/12/2024 13:04

Oh my gosh I really hope this works!!
My husband loves squishy feather pillows and snores like an angry bear. We don't even sleep in the same room anymore!

Same here. Not sure a pillow will cut it.

FrangipaneMincies · 19/01/2025 10:23

Mouthguard works here. DH big snorer, the guard stops the bottom jaw sliding back and keeps those floppy muscles in place. Not expensive either.

Thanks for the tip! Will try.

Politygal · 19/01/2025 11:59

I snore. Try a Tempur shaped pillow, which supports the neck as well as your head. The other thing I use is a 2 - 3 inch strip of 1inch micropore tape to keep my mouth closed. Put it just under the nose and lightly over the mouth. Keeps the mouth moist, and spiders can't drop in!

The first time I tried it husband came rushing into my room, worried because he thought I might be dead! @Hiss!)

SharpOpalNewt · 20/01/2025 10:41

We tried anti snore pillows - they worked for a time but what has helped more is DH going to the gym regularly.
