Does anyone else feel very sorry for Kevin.

It's boxing day so we're chilling out with a film and the film of choice is Home alone. Other than spending a significant portion of the film wondering what the other kids in the family might be called I've spent the rest feeling supremely sorry for poor Kevin.

DH thinks it's a fun uplifting film and that it's partly Kevin's fault whilst all I can think is the lad deserves a family that cares about him.

His uncles a jerk (for calling him a jerk).
His mum is a crap parent for sending her child to bed without dinner and I'm not 100% convinced she didn't leave him on purpose.

That's not to mention the fact they did it all again a year later...

The whole film is based on a child left alone at Christmas. They have to try and engineer a partially realistic situation where that could happen. A situation where everyone is being attentive to Kevin would not lead to him being left alone at home.

And being sent to bed without dinner is not a big deal.

The important question is which Home Alone the best? 1 or 2? Team 2 here.

Oreyt · 26/12/2024 18:42

Team 2!!

Look what you did you little jerk.

If it makes you feel any better I’ve forgot my reading glasses

The first rule of any disney movie is get rid of the parents. Is it more traumatic to a child watching that his family forgot him, or a finding Nemo entire family gets eaten alive? Every disney main character deserves therapy!

Us too.Buzz is a dick.

Fully agree. I don’t blame Kevin for clapping back at Buzz.

It's the police who are crap.

Can you imagine the headlines after this - and any subsequent inquiry?
You mean you just went to his house, knocked on the door and assumed he was out.

But I think the Daily Mail would no doubt blame the mum in all of this

It was - I was ten in 1990, I didn't just make it up!

I grew up in the ‘90s too. It certainly wasn’t my norm or the norm for any of my friends and relatives.

Nothing like mine or my friends 90s childhoods either.

This is why we can't have funny films any more 😁😅😀

Team 2 in this family as well

I love watching this every year with my kids. I get to say to them - " see I'm not as bad as that mum". Actually every grown up is a bit of a dick. Even the nice old man neighbour. What 8 year old hangs about a church on Christmas eve all by themself. That didn't ring alarm bells? Then he lets him wander home by himself even though he lives next door.

Pollyanna87 · 27/12/2024 00:36

I legitimately hate Kevin’s family and I want to see a film where grown-up Kevin gets revenge on them.
