Recommendation for a specialist in ASD assessment in girls/ women based in UK (preferably London)

Hello

I'm posting both in this topic and in Parenting and SEN, as I'm unsure of which topic gets more traffic, and I'd like help/ information.

I have a 10 year old daughter, currently in year 5, in a primary school in England. She is adept at masking/camouflaging...

I would like her to be assessed for ASD, and I would like the assessment to be scheduled and ideally completed within the next 2.5 months. I appreciate that this means I will need to arrange for her to be assessed privately.

I would be grateful for any recommendations of clinical psychologists that:

  1. specialise in ASD assessment in young girls and women
  2. Have a practice based in or near London
  3. Works in a multidisciplinary team that can also manage the in school observation and other elements of the assessment
  4. Will support/ assist with an EHCP (if one is deemed necessary/ appropiate).

Although our preference is for a clinician that is based in London, we can travel and stay over night if necessary somewhere else in the UK, if there are great practitioners that specialise in ASD assessments for girls that are based further afield.

Many thanks in advance for any advice, guidance and recommendations!

My DC was diagnosed by Ann (link above). She’s based near Holborn. She was absolutely brilliant & fitted us in for a short notice appointment when we were at the end of our tethers. We’ve also seen her since for counselling for DC.

There's a really helpful organisation called Autistic Girls Network, they have a private Facebook group for parents you can join and ask for recommendations and advice.

Sorry I can't help with a London based clinic specifically, but the clinic we went to had a team who specialised in women and girls with autism and were fantastic. This was a few years ago and in east Kent though. I think Anna Freud is in London and have heard good things about them but that was a few years ago too.

The Lorna Wing centre is run by the National Autistic Society and is based in Bromley. They are specialists in autism in women and girls.

The Lorna Wing Centre, but there will be a wait.

Hi @Ivyy, thank you for offering details of your experience, if you're able to recall the name of where you visited in East Kent it would be very much appreciated.

I will also look for the Facebook Group, that would be so helpful. Thanks again!

@How2parentNot The lady who assessed my daughter was Dr Ana Mendes, she was great, really got it with girls presentation of autism and masking especially with my dd. If you follow the link and scroll down the list of the team at Psicon, you can see a bit about her:
