Feel a bit sad about today

We were just going to be the four of us (me, DH and DS aged 6 and DD who is 4). Instead very close family friends invited us over. Kids were so excited. So we said we'd do our presents at home and go to church then head over

The days just been a bit rubbish. Church was longer than I assumed and present unwrapping felt hurried cos I didnt want us to be late. Friends aren't in great health and had had various nightmares in the morning before we got here. Our dog didn't really settle and kept wanting to play with another dog which DH and I thought was fine but others apparently deemed it out of hand.

We've stayed over and DD has cried that she wanted to go home.

I just feel bad, we should have stayed at home. I feel really guilty.

It's not too late to go home if the bairn won't settle.

It's just all felt a bit joyless.

No she fell asleep at about eight. We are headed to my dad's tomorrow but then home and I just want to do nothing.

I wouldn't get worked up about the timing being out or presents being rushed, things rarely stick to time frames on Christmas Day! However the dog thing would have put me on edge and sometimes it's just nicer to be at home in your pjs and with your home comforts where you can be your true self in my case slobbing out, eating everything and farting in front of the tv on Christmas Day. Sorry it hasn't worked out the way you hoped. When it's only one day a year you do tend to want to make the most of it. But it's a lesson for next year and you'll still have Boxing Day and hopefully other time off to chill at home.

Yes you're right, it is a lesson learned. Aiming to be back home by tomorrow afternoon. Panto on 27th and then that is it.
