Another Christmas, another set of stories about rancid turkeys

Every year the online papers carry stories about people opening their turkeys, only to find they smell awful and have gone bad, sometimes they are slimy and sometimes even green. These stories have been about ever since I’ve been responsible for Christmas dinner so I always buy frozen and defrost myself. Never had a problem, anyone been unfortunate and bought one of the rancid turkeys this year?

Nope. Bought a boneless frozen joint from local butchers three weeks ago. Took it out of freezer two days ago. Mum cooked it this morning.. Perfect!!

No but I did have a rancid Aldi chicken a few months ago. In hindsight it was pale when I bought it and probably had tiny damage to the packaging which wasn't immediately obvious to the naked eye. I blame supermarkets for getting rid of the little trays the chicken used to sit in. It's way too easy for the plastic to be damaged which leads to food going off quicker and high risk of food poisoning
