Just that really.

Druid here.

We had a big feast on the 21st with friends and are cooking for people tomorrow.

Today we’ve chilled out, exchanged gifts and watched some movies.

We’re all pretty unwell, so a day relaxing has been lovely.

Pasithean · 25/12/2024 18:54

Got up at 5.30 pm to make dinner hate Christmas.

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/12/2024 19:16

Pagan/druid also here

Did the winter solstice celebrations on the 21st and yesterday we hot the shops and bought a freezer worth of veg and meats for pennies.

Today we had a roast and played with our toddler. Such a nice way to spend a day off from the world.

No gift exchanging today, we gave a couple of token presents to our daughter on 21st.

Simonjt · 25/12/2024 19:21

Sikh and an athiest

Helped clean temple (we hold a christmas dinner everyday for whoever needs it and provide presents), apart from that its just like a lazy weekend day. We do do some presents (but that was yesterday) just so when the kids don’t feel left out by not getting anything.

Usedphone · 25/12/2024 19:22

Lit some hannukiot and spun the dreidel!

Jew here - spent the morning tiring the kids out on a long walk then got ready for the first night of Hanukkah (unusually late this year) - made donuts, got the decorations out, put eight days of presents under the Christmas tree (!)* and then, like a lot of liberal Jews, ordered an enormous quantity of Chinese food to have for dinner, as we normally do at Christmas. With crackers to pull.

I was dreading the xmas/hanukkah mashup this year but it was brilliant.

I got up and let the cats out. Went back to bed and watched a couple of programmes I'd recorded. Went out for a curry. Came home, let the cats in again and watched the Strictly Christmas special. Opened some presents and sent and received a few messages. I'm spending most of tomorrow with friends but I've had a quiet, pleasant enough day today.

Dontcallmescarface · 25/12/2024 19:31

Celebrated my birthday 🎂

SlugsWon · 25/12/2024 19:31

Made tons of lakes, lit the menorah, exchanged lovely gifts, cooked a brisket, drank prosecco, and am currently laying on the sofa like a beached whale 😁

I do miss my childhood tradition of Chinese food at Christmas! It's one sad aspect of living in the sticks - no Chinatown, or even delivery

TheTecknician · 25/12/2024 19:37

I am honestly counting my blessings just now. I've read a few threads on AIBU about the lousy time so many people are having today, mainly down to awful family members and/or badly timed illness. Today, as per every Christmas, I'm by myself but in good health (I hope) with a roof over my head, a home made lasagne in the oven, wine on the table and, above all, PEACE AND QUIET (apart from the music playing from my phone). I wouldn't trade what I've got now for a chaotic Christmas household.

Best wishes to all, especially those having a rough time of it.

Thanks! We got it at Home Sense

Lentilweaver · 25/12/2024 19:39

Not much. Bingewatched TV, read a book, went for a walk by the river, dealt with some work emails, made some quesadillas.

Got up, fed the cats, had a bagel with coffee, made stuffing, listened to some podcasts, made a veggie roast dinner, went out to the garden and pruned back the lime tree and chopped the prunings for kindling next year. Cleaned the fire, cleaned the kitchen floor, set and lit the fire, watched the last 2 episodes of Bad Sisters, and spent alot of the day calming the indoor cat who for some reason had a fright in the garden thus morning and has been twitchy all day.

We did buy ourselves some new slippers this week, and just didn't unpack them so that we had a token present to open in jest. Apart from that and a roast dinner we don't do anything Christmassy and have avoided all terrestrial TV today which does my nut in at the best of times. Can't be doing with it all today.

That’s lovely to read. I feel similar. I’d actually been dreading it and feeling I’d be lonely, but I’ve had a lovely day on my own with the dog, with a spot of working/being out and about and seeing people this morning. And I certainly wouldn’t swap it for the dramas I read about on here or even for my own memories of chaotic family christmases past.

Going by the amount of Muslim families we stopped to pass the time of day with in the park this afternoon most of our non-celebrating population were playing out!

It has been a beautiful day for it here!

Jewishbookworm · 25/12/2024 20:02

Invited some people over for first chanuka lighting so spent the day cooking!

Made mini doughnuts, meringues, latkes and some chinese food.

Catsmere · 25/12/2024 20:47

Had a perfectly quiet day, much like I usually do when I don't go out. Read, watched tv online, knitted. I'm an indoor person, so did what I always do in summer heat if I don't have to go anywhere - stayed inside.

ETA it was yesterday for us here in Australia. Boxing Day today and it's going for 37C - it's already 26 at 8am - so I'll be repeating yesterday today.

Hi

Just so I can understand better, if you don't celebrate Christmas, I don't really know much about druid apart from the spiritual connection with nature and land and stuff can you elaborate more and also why you did gifts today?
Many thanks

Surprised there's any Chinese restaurants open. Love Chinese food. What neck of the woods are you in?

OP posts:
MolkosTeenageAngst · 25/12/2024 21:10

Is Chinese food a (modern?) Jewish tradition on Christmas Day or just a coincidence that several people have had it today? Is that because it’s one of the only restaurants likely to be open or is there another reason?
