This is my first year of not working over the holidays due to taking early retirement as a band 8 nurse.
I want to take this opportunity to thank anyone working tonight and tomorrow! 💐 🍫 🍷

My DS is working tonight through to tomorrow morning - paramedic.

HollyBerry873 · 24/12/2024 17:27

Vicar. It’s brutal and exhausting this time of year. And also great fun and worthwhile.

And thank you for your many years of service over the festive period! Hope you’re really enjoying the rest this year.

Work in a co-op. Just off Christmas day and New Years day. Working the rest of it.

PJ04JCW · 24/12/2024 17:34

Previously hospitality and care homes, now a school cook and get 16 days off!
Thanks for all the Christmases you and others gave up 💚

Redglitter · 24/12/2024 17:35

Police control room. Working Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I think its 2029 before I've got a rostered day off on Christmas Day

Unescorted · 24/12/2024 17:36

Thank you to all the people who keep the lights on while the rest of us enjoy a break. It is appreciated.

whatisforteamum · 24/12/2024 17:41

I'm a chef and Dec used to be brutal and enjoyable
.now I work only full-time hrs and I get this week off.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2024 17:41

Paediatric nurse. Usually a really good atmosphere. The kids get very spoilt. We try and clear out everyone we can. Or send them home for the day. But usually the ones still there. Need to be there so can be busy.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 24/12/2024 17:43

Nurse - but off this year for a change. Back 27th (and I have extremely low tolerance for people who complain about having to work between Christmas and New Year - I’m delighted to be off 24-26th it’s such a treat)

Rabinroo · 24/12/2024 17:48

Cabin crew. Why people want to fly on Christmas day is beyond me. Utterly selfish. Surely you can wait a day or two to catch that flight?

What's more selfish and greedy is the airlines scheduling flights for those days and forcing their staff to work it without any extra pay or incentives.

Anyone scheduled to work on these days obviously doesn't want to ring in sick as some other poor colleague will be called out to cover them. It makes me so angry.

handsdownthebest · 24/12/2024 17:49

Work in food poverty so working at getting food banks feed so that they inturn can feed the people in need. Hopefully will get lots of surplus from M&S, Tesco and Waitrose

sprigatito · 24/12/2024 17:49

My ds2 is working all day today and tomorrow. He's a chef.

onlyhereforthechristmaschat · 24/12/2024 17:51

Children’s home. It’s terribly sad that some children need to be looked after by the state at any time of year but it’s particularly heartbreaking at Christmas 💔

liveforsummer · 24/12/2024 17:51

I work in a school but can't survive on that wage alone so also do bar work at the weekends. Working a few extra shift during the 2 week holiday including 26th, 31st and 1st. Won't do Xmas eve or Xmas day due to being a single parent and wanting that time with my dc

You're doing an amazing job, though. I'm sure you'll make it as lovely as possible.

DuckDuckJuice · 24/12/2024 17:56

Destiny123 · 24/12/2024 17:59

I help at a local foodbank. We don't have a collection until the 28th, I have a feeling that there's so much going to waste.

Scirocco · 24/12/2024 18:02

Congratulations @No17CherryTreeLane on your retirement! Enjoy it!

I'll be off during the day but we're a bit short-staffed so I'll be in overnight (doctor) and bringing pizza for everyone on shift and patients who can eat it.

Alwaystired23 · 24/12/2024 18:04

Another nurse, I'm off tomorrow and boxing day, back in Friday, off for the weekend, off New years Day. So, in and out, more or less for the next week or so. Can't complain though, where I work as Band 7s, we get the bank holidays off. We have tried to give all full-time staff an annual leave day this week.

Farmersweeklyreader · 24/12/2024 18:18

Farmer. We have livestock so work every day. Tomorrow we will be checking & feeding the cows & sheep in the morning first thing. Had the vet out this morning to some calves with pneumonia. Hopefully they are on the mend by tomorrow, if no improvement vet will have to come again in the morning.
Home by 9am hopefully. Present opening then start cooking dinner. We have 22 for lunch tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everyone
