This is my first year of not working over the holidays due to taking early retirement as a band 8 nurse.
I want to take this opportunity to thank anyone working tonight and tomorrow! 💐 🍫 🍷

Congratulations! You have more time to do what you love now.

@onlyhereforthechristmaschat same here, I manage a home now so I'm not actually in on bank holidays or weekends anymore but did work them for years. Downside now is I'm on call 24/365 as I hold legal responsibility for the home so can expect to be contacted as my current team are mostly inexperienced and need advice at times.
Christmas in children's homes is especially hard, everything on TV and social media is about family and spending time together, which most of our kids can't do. This is the first year where I'll have them all there on Christmas morning as they had no one (or at least no one suitable) invite them to spend Christmas Eve with them. We try and make it as nice as possible, do Xmas Eve boxes, pjs and Christmas film etc. but it doesn't take away the fact that the people they're with are paid to be there 😢

I worked in the public sector for over 30 years - although I didn't work on Christmas/Boxing Days, I always worked in between those days and NYD.
Thanks to all of you who are running everything during this holiday period and I hope that you get some time to yourselves 🎄

Self employed dog walker and cat sitter. I have no dogs to walk today or tomorrow but am caring for a lot of cats whilst their owners are away over the festive period. I spent 3 hours making visits this morning, and will do the same this evening. It does allow for me to do Christmas inbetween visits so I am not working solidly.

@Redglitter @bennyonthedispatch @NailsHairNipsHeels
I used to be on dispatch as well, then moved to Front Office to escape nights and then 2 years ago became PA to our local SLT to avoid all shifts.

A lot less money as no shift allowance, but the sheer relief of no shift working is priceless. And being able to book leave whenever I want!!

I was at home during lockdown, doing the support desks and it was particularly miserable being at home at night on Christmas Eve and Day.

I was working yesterday but the Supt sent me home at lunchtime, so I braved M & S for few last minute bits. Not back until Monday now as I booked Friday off.

Police- first Christmas off for a while and off all the PH's but to be fair could do with the money!

Was in Xmas eve and am in nye and every day around it.

Feels weird not working any of the big days- but that's because I have for the past 7 years

Another vet here 👋 Just part of the job but sometimes I do think
“wouldn't it be nice to never have to work a weekend/ night/ Bank Holiday again”

Everyone well behaved today though 🤞🤞

A big thank you to you all! You have saved my beloved Animals more than once over the years, a few times as an emergency😊
