I love a "I'm at the in-laws and I'm starving"
Also "dp didn't propose"

Obviously this is very lighthearted

OP posts:

Calling it!

This year MJ deniers!

”Ive only eat salad for a year and increased my reps”

5st lighter than Easter 🤔

Snowangles · 24/12/2024 17:27

Wealthy in laws, million pound plus house but cold, competitive under eating, op wondering whether to go to a garage to buy food, mil thinks she is an amazing host, dc given one small gift from them.

Snowangles · 24/12/2024 17:29

However I think my best one was a Christmas family row thread but with a light hearted theme ie not my dh walked out and left us wifh nothing more... Aunt mabel kicked off and screamed because someone used fhe wrong cheese knife

There's a couple of promising ones coming on now - 'charity gifting' and 'new BF hasn't got me anything even though I got him a birthday pressie'. Lots of potential there. 🍿

I’m at my parents right now and I’m starving! True story

Well that’s your own fault I’m afraid. I never go anywhere without twiglets this time of year

ABunchOfBadBitches · 24/12/2024 17:41

Megapint · 24/12/2024 15:24

AIBU - Me & Dh agreed we wouldn't buy gifts for each other this year ( it was actually my idea. He wasn't really on board but reluctantly agreed. In the end, I did buy him a shit tonne, but he didn't buy me anything and seemed shocked when I handed him a pile of gifts. I actually blame my MIL it's ruined Christmas.

Yep🤣🤣

VyeBrator · 24/12/2024 17:43

I normally swerve Mumsnet for a couple of weeks after Christmas due to the peak whinging.

I don't mean the occasional awful thread, I mean all the ingratitude and in-law hatred.

Most of the 'problems' could be sorted out by the OP actually speaking for themselves, getting their husband to speak for them or buying their own snacks because the in-laws haven't piled their plates to the ceiling.

waltzingparrot · 24/12/2024 17:47

I like those ones where they're typing secretly from upstairs whilst eating the emergency food supplies they bought.

Iloveyoubut · 24/12/2024 17:55

idontknowwhotovotefor · 24/12/2024 16:45

I've already read my favourite 'freezing at in-laws' thread, culminating in someone claiming that they are most comfortable between 9 and 11c 🤣🤣🤣

Oh this! The performative under heating! 😂

This is very true. Years ago when DH and I were newly married I was horrified at how little booze was on offer the first year I spent at the PILs at Christmas. So every Christmas we spent with them after that I bought them a case of wine. FIL was much happier to dish out wine that I'd bought 😂. Problem solved. Although (this was pre-Mumsnet) I did have a moan to my DSis that I'd not had any port on Xmas Day that first year.

Family row thread: BIL's bidie-in moaned all Christmas one year because we didn't serve cos lettuce with every meal. She hasn't come back...

WASZPy · 24/12/2024 18:09

Wasn't there a thread one year where the OP had found an engagement ring in a gift stash, but then she didn't receive it on Christmas day? Cue much speculation about why not.

I've not heard the term bidie in for a long time.

Sorry wrong quote 😬

That’s a new one for me. There’s nothing I like better than learning a new Scottish phrase. I’m still very excited at learning Shrugly Peg from my colleague last year

EarthlyNightshade · 24/12/2024 18:33

I usually avoid the "I bought DH 15 presents but he only bought me 12, I am sat here crying" threads, but a Christmas parking thread?!?
I am looking forward to one of those almost as much as Christmas Gavin and Stacey.

My MIL used to say bidie innie. I was the bidie innie before we got married 😂

This.
It cracks me up.

ByHeartyCyanMentor · 24/12/2024 18:38

Was the one with the carcass a Christmas thread - I don’t remember it was a long time ago now.

ssd · 24/12/2024 18:52

I always like the worst present ever threads, when the posters have received more than me and are all moaning like feck

BrickRedLipstick · 24/12/2024 19:01

I always find the threads about refusing to eat anything special interesting. I can understand (just about) that not everybody enjoys a roast dinner but you have 364 days to eat frozen pizza.

It's shoogly peg as in yer coats on a shoogly peg ..it means you're destined to be sacked.

alfagirl73 · 24/12/2024 19:07

I love the “starving at in-laws” and “penis portions” ones. Bonus points if any kind of rebellion is involved!

ThejoyofNC · 24/12/2024 19:10

There's one at the minute where the MIL won't let them have dinner until 8/9pm.

Without a doubt my favourites are the ungrateful ones.

HyggeTygge · 24/12/2024 19:20

OP i literally had a thread OP started asking what traditional threads people were looking forward to!

Meagre portions and bizarre gifts from eccentric relatives!

Edit - i drafted it but never posted as couldn't be arsed in the end!

DerekFaker · 24/12/2024 19:23

Slagging off Bayliss & Harding

Christmas is RUINED (by 9 am).
