What work-arounds do you have for not murdering the people who irritate you?

Particularly those you live with.

DH will never use a clean knife when he uses the butter or cut off what he needs first. I loathe crumbs in butter. He is the same with marmalade. The only way to deal with him is two butter dishes and two marmalade pots which he is forbidden to use.

If only I can find a Work-around for 40 years of leaving every cupboard and door open in every room.

Remove cupboard doors?

As it is Christmas and he never buys me a present, would it be permissible to shut his head in the door before I remove them.

Of course that is reasonable ! He never buys you a present? surprised he’s lasted this long - LTB😂😂

lol, self closing doors?

Mine is lights, you know where DH has been by the trail of lights left on...

OP - no present? Is this acceptable to you? We don't go over the top (and one present is usually something we need for the house/ a joke eg a phone charger because we keep stealing each other's) but to get nothing would hurt me.

We have been together 60 years this year. Fortunately there have been very few. LTB moments in that time. Sometimes it was a case of sheer bloody-mindedness on my part. I have also developed a way of getting silent revenge. He has no idea, but fairness to him he would not care. The man life’s in a World of his own most of the time.

My best advice is to go on a long, bracing walk… or send them on one while you take one for the team by staying at home eating biscuits getting jobs done

I’m currently looking for advice on how to deal with smug/ faintly arrogant BiL and SiL. Apart from knowing that it will wear off over time, has anyone some coping tactics they would like to share?

There was no MN in the early years of our marriage. I would have been wiser if there had been. It would seem that like hundreds of others present buying is very unequal. It seems that women put more effort into getting gifts than men. 10 years in, after consecutive disappointments, I said ‘neither of need stuff, why don’t we stop giving presents?” It protected me from hurt. He was very generous in other ways. From a young age he gave me a credit card and never questioned any spending. He was the sole earner for 12 years.

i have amazingly generous and thoughtful GC and their partners which definitely makes up for it.

Assume someone else is already working on it and remind myself not to mess up their plans.
