If you are doing pulled beef in a slow cooker woukd you put water in and cover it or just a little oil and then add the sauce during cooking?

Was expecting a post about a DH pulling his beef in the shower.

When I’m doing pulled beef I put everything in at the beginning and leave it to cook for several hours.

I wouldn't add anything apart from dry seasoning, definitely not oil! If you want it 'wet' add the bbq sauce or whatever at the end

So I'm
Just adding shop bought honey bbq sauce so would you just add this in at the beginning?

I would thin out the bbq sauce with water and cook the beef in bbq-y water. At the end remove from the water and shred with two forks then mix in more sauce (no water).

I chop an onion into wedges and put that at the bottom of the slow cooker then beef on top. No sauce, water or oil.
If I was adding sauce I would do it once the beef was ready and pulled. Add the sauce to the slow cooker, give it a stir and cook for 20 mins more to warm through.
