What will I do about an online order?

I ordered an item the week before last. I ordered it on the Friday. I knew there would be nothing with dispatch until the following week.

I got dispatch emails on Monday the 16th of December.

The tracking on my email says:

Retailer has shared shipping details with the courier

My issue with this is that it made no progress over the past week. The tracking still says the same thing. There was no update whatsoever with the shipping.

I know we are in the run up to Christmas and it's busy and there's loads of parcels and stuff to deliver.

The thing is the shipping just hasn't updated and moved along to something like:

  • your parcel is in your hub...
  • we have your item and it will be delivered tomorrow
  • your parcel is out for delivery.

There's just quite simply no progress through the shipping network. It nearly looks like it sitting in some warehouse for the carrier to pick up.

I made contact with the shop on Saturday and it was only this morning when I got a reply back.

I was informed that they will contact the courier to confirm the delivery status and request it is delivered as soon as possible.

Anyways I have no idea what to do now. It's been sitting somewhere for a week now with no progress on the shipping.

Do I continue and keep waiting for this or will i cancel this order? It is something that I need and want.

I’ve just cancelled an order this morning under the same circumstances. I’ve got a tracking number but it hasn’t actually been dispatched/collected by the courier.

I’ve emailed them saying I can see it has not actually been shipped and I’d like to cancel the order and receive a full refund.

I think if there is no update by this evening to the tracking I will cancel the order.

I got a reply back from the shop and something that annoyed me was that apparantly it's already with the courier and if I wish to cancel this I will need to refuse delivery.

But the tracking says definitely and it just looks to me as if someone placed a tracking sticker or barcode on it and it was never picked up.

There's just no progress with it.

I checked tracking again this morning and there's still no update.

I have no idea what to do.

It's nearly noon and there's still no progress or update on the tracking. It's just too long for it to sit on the same thing.

I want to cancel it because it's taking too long but then I also need it. I can't get it anywhere else.

It's just ridiculous how something has t updated with the tracking.

At about 4 pm yesterday, there was still no tracking update.

I contacted the shop I ordered from and I asked to cancel the order and give me a refund.

They are now dragging their heels trying to give a refund. The reply to me said that they asked the courier to cancel the delivery and they asked me if it turns up that I must refuse the delivery. I also must talk to all the neighbours and ask them to refuse the delivery for me too.

I checked the tracking on it and there's no update. I checked the tracking on another site and it still says : sender is preparing shipment.

I think given the limited information this is just sitting in a warehouse ready to be picked up.

Unless if it's moving along the network without any scans.

The thing is, I found an alternative item which would be more suitable. It's more expensive but I can get it by approx 30th of Dec. I am interested in ordering that now.

I am just so confused really at this point.

I run a small business and use various couriers depending on the size and value of the item.

When an order is placed by a buyer, I book the courier online - this is when the initial online time stamp is recorded. There will be no further updates on the tracking until I drop the parcel off at the couriers drop off point.

In your situation, it sounds like the parcel hasn't actually been taken to the drop off point and is still with the supplier \ sender.

i have put in an order, on 5th december
still not arrived
no contact with seller
via ebay so nothing to do until 28th
i cant reorder from someone else until i have confirmation about the first order
very annoying

It just means it's been given a tracking number when they paid for postage online.

It doesn't mean they have dropped it off with RM or the courier.

Thank you, I became very stern with the company today demanding for a refund. The person I was talking to said that the courier has the order but there's no tracking.

I’d go ahead and order this ^ and when the original item arrives, either refuse it or return it for a refund (assuming it’s a straightforward UK company).

It's an item of furniture. It's flat packed. I returned smaller parcels before when I had to. I don't fancy returning a larger and heavier item due to the cost involved.

I will be keeping stern with them. Come Friday I will ask for a refund to be issued before the day is over or I will do a chargeback with the bank.

I doubt the item has even shipped to be honest. Unless if it was shipped but it just wants scanned anywhere over the past 8 days.

I complained.to a firm i ordered an item from when it never progressed to the 'out for delivery' stage. The customer service lady told me to leave it with her. 4 days later the.item was delivered and so did its replacement! It looks as if the first item was misplaced somewhere along the line and was then overtaken by its replacement.

Fragggggie · 24/12/2024 21:28

I got a response from the shop I ordered from. They are denying that my order is sitting in a warehouse and they are claiming that the item was shipped. What I didn't realise was that I thought it came from a UK site but it's shipped from outside of the UK. I think maybe Netherlands. So they are claiming that the tracking hasn't updated because it hasn't reached royal mail yet.

But this doesn't make any sense to me. When I type the tracking number into the courier company in Europe, there's no details of the progress. It's still sitting on the same status of :sender/retailer preparing for sending. Something like that.

I am so sick of this because they are claiming that they dispatched this but it's still taking too long to even get into royal mail.

There probably won't be any mail or progress until next week anyways. I got an estimated delivery date for the 23rd of December and they are now asking me to wait another week.

This happened to me almost word for word. Ordered 8 December, dispatch notice and tracking issued 9 December, supposed to be here 16. No change to tracking info at all until Friday morning when it suddenly said received by courier and due for delivery that day then arrived at lunch. When I emailed with the company in the week between basically was coming from the Netherlands on a pallet, told me had left them, no way to cancel,I had to refuse delivery/ speak to courier ( which is impossible to do). Basically I think the tracking order is issued but no tracking updates are logged til it hits the uk. Very annoying but worked out for me in the end just about.

Thank you. Yes, this is nearly exactly what I am going through. I had an estimate delivery for Dec the 23 which was on Monday. I know that's only an estimate. My issue is that there's no update to the tracking and I still don't have the item by the way. I am now trying to cancel the order and seek a refund and I am told to refuse the delivery (how?). You would swear I am going to be sitting at home just waiting for this just so I can refuse it and it makes it harder the fact that there's no update to the tracking. Still today, there is no update to the tracking.

I'm just at a loss as to what to do now. It shouldn't be taking this long. Even if the tracking was to update and tell me it's in the country I would be satisfied with that much but that's not even happening. At this stage I just want a refund. I don't want to be left dealing with a refusal of the order or returning it if it does eventually arrive. I have no idea if it will arrive or not. Nor do I want to make an order for another item just in case this one turns up and I am left with two of them. So I am just in limbo.
