What are you doing on Boxing Day if you’re not seeing family?

I need some ideas! We’re not big on walks but will definitely be needing to get out of the house.

Films, making soup, crackers and cheese, drink or two. Chill.

Crunchymum · 22/12/2024 15:55

No help here as we're out on Christmas Day so Boxing day will be our family (just the 5 of us) Christmas dinner and we'll be chilling / playing with toys / boardgames / films.

emmetgirl · 22/12/2024 16:00

Going to work.

ginasevern · 22/12/2024 16:02

Go to a wildlife park or something like that? Is there an ice rink or light trail type thing near enough to you? Go the the pantomime (even if you haven't got kids) or a show at the theatre. Go to a museum or local attraction like the zoo or a stately home/castle. Alternatively you could just stick a film on at home, eat chocolates and drink Baileys!

Well we are actually going to my best friend’s for a few hours in the late afternoon, she’s as good as family.

But it’s the first time in a while we won’t be spending the day with in laws, after hosting them here every Christmas Day because MIL says she can’t face hosting/ doing Christmas dinner but then basically insists on doing a repeat the next day. This year I’ve finally said no, my friend having a get together has given an excuse and I’m honestly relieved!

We won’t be going till later so I plan to stay in pjs until late, get DD out for a run round the park then back for leftovers and maybe a film until it’s time to leave.

Previous years (before MIL started her thing) we’ve done panto one year, a light trail another and a drive to the seaside for a walk. You could also look what’s open near you maybe ice skating, swimming, if you have kids/ depending on ages then soft play, trampoline park or climbing wall if they’re open? If no kids then pub or a nice meal. Cinema maybe - are they open?

JadeSeahorse · 22/12/2024 16:20

Hibernating! 😁. With loads of wine and goodies.
It will just be DH and I - bliss!

comedycentral · 22/12/2024 16:21

Dog walking x 3 times
Fooooood

Katesam2016 · 22/12/2024 16:23

I cook for a lot of people on Xmas day. I don’t enjoy it but makes sense for everyone as we have the most room. I refuse to see anyone on Boxing Day. It’s just me, dh and dd7. Get up late, watch films all day, eat nice food that needs minimal prep or cooking.

Blakehouse · 22/12/2024 16:25

clean the house. Get out into the garden. Put presents into their new homes. Be grateful it’s all done

CalicoPusscat · 22/12/2024 16:28

Staying warm with lots of food

handsdownthebest · 22/12/2024 16:33

Ride our bikes. Looking forward to it already as won’t have much time before.

This year it will be reading books, doing jigsaws, the possibility of a little Lego, a nice side of salmon for dinner, and ALL the chocolates. I will probably make turkey soup, and chuck in all the leftover veg, potatoes & stuffing. There will not be any leftover pigs in blankets. 😂

DH will probably be keen as mustard to go for a walk. He can go on his own.😁

Doggymummar · 22/12/2024 16:44

Eating drinking and being merry, like all of advent

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 22/12/2024 16:45

Working

EllaPaella · 22/12/2024 16:46

Start the day with a dip in the sea then home for a shower and breakfast. Take DC for a nice long walk with the dog on the beach then home for hot baths, PJ's, food and TV.

HappyDartsmas · 22/12/2024 16:48

Going to football

hennipenni · 22/12/2024 17:00

Same as us! Will choose somewhere near a country pub for the dog walk though!

Judellie · 22/12/2024 17:09

Taking DD to work. Should probably do some cleaning.

Sortalike · 22/12/2024 17:18

We'll be cooking Christmas Dinner so that will take up the majority of the day, but in previous years we've gone out for a walk around a National Trust near us, we've met up with friends, taken DD out on a Christmas Lights Tour, movie marathons, done a jigsaw etc.

Last year we took DD swimming in the morning - the gym was open, but deserted, so we had the pool to ourselves.

spuddy4 · 22/12/2024 17:24

Working.

RestYeMerryGentlewomen · 22/12/2024 17:25

DS has a late shift as he works for emergency services and MIL and DH are at home. Do not get me wrong I get on fine with MIL but as it’s a 3 to 3.5 drive to her house she stays for a week. Plus SIL lives overseas so we have a Christmas dinner on 23 and 25 and she flies back to her actual house to have Christmas with her BF.Both are hosted at ours and DH shares the load otherwise he could jog on but by then I have had enough. My mate is getting divorced and on Boxing day her kids are going to their Dads, they are late teens. So I’m going over for the afternoon from about 3pm and looking very forward to it. She was welcome at ours and she has met MIL but we will have a much better time the two of us plus I want to escape!
